With friends like these.....

Like everything else, the Bush administration has given new definintion to yet another concept.

Friend: Someone for whom you express admiration, respect, even affection when they are about to, or already have, taken the fall from grace. But this must be done in the media, preferably on Fox, Hannity, Rush Limbaugh or in an op ed in the Washington Post or the Wall Street Journal. The definition of friendship does NOT include picking up the phone or grabbing lunch to say..."gee, I'm there for ya, buddy". That would be too honest. And as everyone knows, anything said by Bush, Cheney or the neozombies is truth, if it is SPOKEN in the media. No need to follow it up with inconvenient and unpleasant ACTIONS.

Kind of reminds me of the lack of Bush conversation with Gonzales for weeks...even though he publicly SAID to everyone else that he supported the AG. I'm guessing Wolfowitz' phone isn't ringing off the hook, either, in spite of all the public and scripted "support" from his "friends" in the administration.

And hats off to Cheney for finding yet a new use for the ever-handy, "I can't talk about an ongoing case". That covers pretty much everything these days. Even friendship.

Typo

I believe that the last two statements are attributed incorrectly. Otherwise, an interesting conversation.

Schieffer sucks

Notwithstanding Scheiffer's failure to question the multiple misstatements, half-truths and omissions Cheney spewed during his 'answers', Scheiffer also missed this:

Cheney: But I'm also constrained not to discuss it.

Omitted question: Constrained by whom? The President? Your legal counsel? Who else can 'constrain' you?

Inappropriate?

There are a lot of things that are inapprpriate for this administration to do, but it hasn't seemed to stop them in the past.

Deeply Unfunny Headline

Given the breaking news from Virginia Tech (21 dead), this headline is deeply offensive and should be altered.

Further excerpts from Cheney interview:

Schieffer: Ok... moving along.. can we talk about your hobby of pulling wings off of flies and watching them scurry around until they are dead?

Cheney: Is that illegal?

Shieffer: Not to my knowledge.

Cheney: In that case, I can respond.... I do enjoy a nice little session of ripping wings off of flies. I find it relaxing.

Shieffer: Do you think they feel pain?

Cheney: Bob, they're flies!

All politicians are scumbags!

Ask the Clintons when they last spoke to Lani Guinier. They used to be best friends ‘til Bill pulled her nomination after GOP pressure. When Lani was asked two years later what the Clintons had said to her since it had happened, she replied they had never contacted her since. An example of the reverse of the coin is McCain sucking up to the religious right that slimeballed him last time around. Further proof that all politicians are scumbags who’s only concern is protecting themselves and their interests.
