I think the phrase you're going for
in the header is "you know what happens when you assume . . ." which continues "you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me." It doesn't work so well with the word "assumptions" as it's hard to make an ass out of an "mption" as mptions are total losers to begin with.

Did any of these folks ask Sampson if he did talk to Karl Rove, ever, about anything? From this testimony one could get the impression that Sampson never met the guy let alone talked with him. What a sycophant.

The Unasked Question
In my opinion Senator Kennedy, while to the point, failed to address a key question about the disconnect between Kyle Sampson's Dec 2006 email and his subsequent DOJ letter of Feb 23, 2007.
That question: Why did Sampson route the Feb 23 letter to White House Counsel for approval? If he knew that DOJ had no interactions with Rove and Miers over the attorney firings - that his own assumptions and speculation back in Dec 2006 were just that, and lacked factual basis - then why did WHCO need to sign off?
To me the answer is clear: Sampson wanted the Counsel's office to have his back as he prepared to submit false testimony to Congress.
