If Fox hadn't given would he have been nominated in the first place?

Fox gave the group money to raise his profile with Bush in the hopes of being rewarded. Mission Accomplished!

That's how bidness with the Bush administration works.

Senator Kerry:

You lost. Deal with it.

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 11:00 AM

Disqualified, I should think

Sounds like Mr. Fox is either incredibly disconnected from his money or very much a partisan hack. Either should, in any event, disqualify him from serving as ambassador.

But that would only make sense in the real world....

Kerry is dealing with it.

It's payback time. Disqualify him.

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 11:24 AM

Hi Mr. Fox?

Hi yes - Can you help me out? I'm going to need about half a million dollars for some stuff I'm working on. Just trust me, it'll be good. No worries, we're on the up and up.

Thank you so much!

You can just make the check out to "Cash".

Enjoy being our official rep to Belgium! I hear over there that Stella Artois ain't even fancy!

MD

You say, "Senator Kerry:

You lost. Deal with it."

There is another popular phrase: "Payback's a bitch."

Or if you really want to run with your original catchphrase: "Republican Congress: You lost. Deal with it."

Is poor judgement really something we want?

It would seem to me that being an ambassador requires very good judgment. I'm not sure that this gentleman showed very good judgment when he gave money to a group with absolutely no idea of how it would be spent and then refused to renounce this group when it used his money to spread what he believed to be lies about a man he considers "a hero". Perhaps the bush administration could find somebody a bit more honorable to represent the United States in it's international negotiations.

Forget Belguim!

I think this guy's dedication is worth a much better assignment - perhaps some craphole like one of the 'stans - Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan. No Stella Artois there!

Ethics? Oversight? I don't need no stinkin'...

Wouldn't an ambassador to Belgium have to administer some kind of budget, or at least exercise some oversight over disbursements?

After all, given Mr. Fox's urge to give, what is there to stop one of our "enemies" (e.g., a member of a terrorist cell) from going to the embassy and just asking Mr. Fox, should he be confirmed, for some money for some supposedly charitable cause? Say... $50,000. Would he even check it out?

Has Mr. Fox really not paid any attention at all to the depressing news stories about the US dollars that have been "disappeared" in Iraq because no one bothered even to write down the amounts and to whom they were given, much less why?

Still, Mr. Fox does fit the typical profile of a Bush crony who has so little of real substance to offer in this situation, but merely glides along being rewarded with plum assignments simply because he is a Loyalist. One with enough money of his own to buy his way into the club.

More importantly, though, doesn't Mr. Fox really just believe that (his) ends justify (his) means? Even if it means being obsequious today with Senator Kerry-- a war hero whom he yesterday helped the $SBVT to smear-- in order to secure a cushy position in the EU? Apparently.

Thus, he is, after all, a perfect fit for this administration.

If I were Kerry

I'd climb over the table and beat the fuck out of him until my arms were too heavy to lift. Then I'd piss on him.

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 12:25 PM

What's Worse?

To follow a recent train of thought, what is worse? That he know where his money was going or that he didn't know where his money was going?

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 12:33 PM

John, John, John...

It's great that you are showing some backbone and finally beating up a swift boater but geez, why didn't you do it in 2004 when it would've really meant something?

Representative

According to the Belgium Embassy website:

"The Ambassador is the personal representative of the President of the United States."

So "Foxie" represents George W. Bush? Enuf said.

Fox told Kerry that he considers him "a hero" and that no 527 group could ever "take that away from him."

Apparently they did, and this idiot helped to finance it. Ambassadors are political appointments. Fox held up his end of the deal. Bush is returning the favor. Tit for tat. This has been going on since Ceasar's nephew got the concrete concession to build markets in Rome. If Kerry wants to "get even" here's the opportunity. Knowing what kind of guy he is though he'll weigh qualifications and make an honest decision based on that, which of course, no one will believe. So, the long and the short of it: If I were Kerry, I'd launch this Bush lemming over the cliff to save Fox the time to have to run off of it himself with the other Bush lemmings.

Bush's cronies

Just ask anyone in New Orleans how qualified Bush's appointees are.

Sam Fox is from where?

The Crooks & Liars report about Fox leads to a post at BobGieger.com that shows an IRS document listing Fox's address as 7701 Forsyth Blvd., Clayton MI.

Clayton, Mich., is a small village near the Ohio border. I wondered if it was Clayton, MO., since he's affiliated with St. Louis.

A Zip Code lookup with the Postal Service lists these business at that address in Clayton MO.
