Are you for real?
A.J., I can't believe you're still spewing that same "Defeatocrats, cut and run" garbage even now, when the Iraq war has been proven to be the biggest debacle since the Depression and Bush and the Republicans have proven to be the most power-mad, ideologically blinded, incompetent ruling party in this nation's history.
Spare us the Delusional Right's catch phrases and look at what's really going on. We've already lost the war. Iraq is in a state of civil war that would take 300,000 more troops to pacify, if indeed it could be pacified. Meanwhile, our presence there is making the potential situation with Iran and Syria worse and wrecking the morale and capabiliy of our military. Just as with Vietnam, we have to ask the hard question: "Is continuing this war benefiting our national interest in any way that makes it worth continuing?" The answer is "No."
None of the reasons for the war have proven true. It is not making us any safer, as clearly the war has sparked the recruitment of more terrorists than existed before it began. It is not bringing stability to thr region; if anything, it is de-stabilizing the Mideast. It is pulling resources away from our legitimate cause in Afghanistan, where the Taliban are returning in droves and what we did there in 2002 is at risk of failure. And most important, it is costing thousands of American and Iraqi lives for a venture that has been proved to be based on lies, lies and more lies from Bush and his Neocon allies.
Fuck what Iran or al Qaeda have to say. Has it occurred to you, genius, that they say the things they do to sow political discord in this country, because they know that if they shout "Boo!" we'll trash our own country out of the kind of fear Bush has worked hard to promote? After all, that's what we've done for the last 5 years.
You can call it "cut and run." I call it "wake the hell up." It's time to open our eyes and realize that this war is a catastrophe and our national interest will be 1,000 times better served by calling it what it is and acting accordingly.
