On the AP. Here we go...
Greek government is currently blaming leftists.
Let's call 'em what they are.
He deserved a better fate and decidedly a better leader and cause to die for. Bush's tears were more likely caused from guilt than from him being proud to bestowe the honor. It's not often that the murderer gets to congratulate the parents of the victim. Heck of a job Bush.
when they've run out of other tactics. They've mastered it since childhood. It always worked on mommy so why not the American public.
This young man was killed in April 2004. Would it normally take this long for him (his family) to receive this award or is this more smoke and mirrors.
I mean no disrespect but with BushCo, you always have to wonder. This is a well derserved award for a true hero but Bush has lost the peoples trust.
This reminds me of Poppy Bush coming to speak alongside Jeb and weeping at the thought of Jeb losing the bid for Florida governor back in 1994 (not surprising, in that his campaign platform was "Vote for me and I'll sign many more death warrants than Lawton Chiles does!").
It wasn't the loss of a close election that moved Poppy to tears, it was the realization that the smart Bush kid got blindsided, didn't build up plenty of time in office so that he could run for President in 2000, and got overtaken by the prodigal son.
Bush isn't weeping for the guy who frantically threw a helmet on a grenade to save his buddies - he's feeling sorry for himself.
When Democrat Ed Muskie ran for president the Right Wingers tried to tear him down by first spreading a vicious rumor that Muskie had insulted an ethnic group (French Canadian Americans) and when that didn't work, the rabid-dog Manchester Union-Leader, Nixon's yellow rag megaphone in the Northeast, started going after Muskie's wife Jane. They started spreading a bald-faced lie that she was getting drunk and using foul language at stops on the campaign tour.
Finally Muskie, a man of deep religious faith and old-fashioned sense of honor had had enough. He made a speech outside the Union-Leader building in the cold and snow. He gave them a good dressing down. But the man had a cold and was wiping his nose as he spoke and snow was melting on his face. So the pictures were snapped and the headlines were written and it comes out like this: Muskie Has Emotional Breakdown!
The Nixon camp jumped on this like mad dogs on a soup bone. Within a day, Muskie was washed-up as a Democratic candidate. Mission accomplished.
So now we have a photo, OBVIOUSLY staged for the cameras, with Bush shamelessly letting big old tears run down his cheek without even trying, as a REAL MAN would, to at least wipe them away out of a sense of dignity, and what does the press make of it? Oh, George Bush is really a compassionate human being after all! See, he CAN cry! Poor man. He's endured so much and he really does "mourn every death" as he once snapped to a skeptical reporter.
So it's down to this again: When a Democrat cries, he's weak. When a Republican cries, it's out of deep compassion (For the men and women he's killed for nothing).
Yes, but does he still sleep well every night?
When his dreams are haunted by the screams of our men and women in uniform who've just been tagged by a sniper or an IED, I'll take that tear to mean something more than a political photo-op.
That's all this president is good for. Having his picture taken. He's like a glorified Chamber of Commerce member.
I'd like to believe:
1. that Dubya and his advisors truly believe that Iraq is THE CENTRAL FRONT in the Global War on Terrorism;
2. that Iraq truly IS this central front in the GWOT;
2. that it's even possible to wage a military war on a TACTIC like terrorism, and that it's the best choice to do so;
3. that Dubya et al. clearly recognize the long-term global consequences of our presence in Iraq;
4. that Dubya et al. fully understand the effects on our military personnel and their families resulting from this war;
5. and finally, that there actually is a "Plan B", just in case "Plan A" (this 20,000+ "surge") does NOT work.
Bottom line, I'd LIKE to believe all these things, but I don't. There needs to be some basis beyond pure trust and pure faith. A majority of Americans simply find nothing but complete trust and blind faith to rely on with this President, and it's no longer enough.
My God, NO ONE with a grain of sense ever wanted failure in Iraq. At some point, though, isn't there only one rational thing to do -- to take the helm from the captain who's driven you onto the rocks repeatedly? We look derisively at the $210 million golden parachute of Home Depot's ousted CEO -- maybe that's money well spent to get rid of their failed leader!
Hmmm, what would it take to get the CEO of the United States to go into early retirement in Crawford, TX? Just asking...
Hey Big Guy, it's Turd Blossom.
I've got a great idea. Listen to this:
Let's find some poor dead fuck Marine who did something hero-like, OK? Then we'll put him up for the MOH. But we won't spring it on the family until we can set this up for maximum press effect, OK?
Like, we'll march the grieving family in for a posthumous award ceremony and you can give the mother her son's MOH. Well get all the press in there and all the cameras will be recording and then, get this! This is the kicker, OK?
I want you to think of something really really sad and get a tear rolling down your cheek. We'll make sure the Fox 'news' cameras are in tight on your face and you give it your best Sarah Bernhardt moment, OK? And if you can't make the water-works, we'll do like Hollywood and you can put a little glycerin squirt bottle in a hankie and you can let it run down your cheek. It'll be great!
I can see the headlines: "Compassionate Bush Mourns Every Death".
Yeah, that's it!
And have Laura turn to you and put her arm around your shoulder like she's comforting you!
Man! That'll sell the American Sheeple like hot cakes!
Best Regards,
Turd Blossom
