  • do it FAST

Whatever the Democrats do about stopping this surge they need to do it RIGHT NOW. Every day more of our kids are being slughtered over there for Bush's lies. So it needs to be done NOW before more troops are stuck in there and then the Democrats will be accused of not supplying these new troops. NOW. It has to go to the very top of the list.

  • International diplomacy

is not sexy enough, nor macho enough, for our Great Decider.

  • hmmmmmmmmm

Folks, I think Bush is right on the edge of being in real trouble.

As another poster pointed out elsewhere, if this speech is anything short of a grand-slam home-run, the impeachment talk may start getting a little louder, a little more serious, and may start coming from both sides of the aisle.

It is tragic that our kids are being killed for this man's vanity, but note well: he's in trouble now, serious trouble, and I suspect his speech tonight will not get him out of that trouble..it will likely put him in deeper.

It's going to be a real pleasure to watch the bastard start to squirm. He hasn't really started yet. But soon, he will.

  • Proxy

If all the neocons and conservapundits believe that fighting in Iraq is fueled by Iran and Syria as a proxy war, why are they so unwilling to involve these patron nations in the treaty/truce negotiations?

The answer, of course, is that none of them are equipped for diplomacy- it is against their dictatorial personalities and 'god-given' self confidences. Argh.

  • Tim Grieve was right about the TV coverage

Yesterday, Grieve asked if it was just his impression, or did it seem like the war coming into our homes from TV seemed to be getting louder and more desperate in advance of Bush's troop escalation speech tonight.

Well, if this morning is any indication, it's suddenly all war all the time on CNN, your Iraq War Headquarters.

They are even showing some new feeds of almost "live" action of our Marines scurrying around on Baghdad rooftops and empty high rise apartments, shooting at "bad guys" as the Hairdoo Du Jour reads breathlessly from his teleprompter.

It's so exciting! It's so stirring and patriotic! Our "boys" over there killing "Al Qaeda" insurgents and Sunni "bad guys" as they go house to house like a "First Person Shooter" video game. I don't know how the Tee Vee talking head knows who they are shooting at because CNN always cuts away before you see some grungy-looking "bad guy" crumple to the ground from one of our "good guys" with a sniper scope.

And more footage is coming in from Somolia where CIA spooks and Delta Force commandos are picking off truck-loads of "Top Al Qaeda leaders" as they try to slip out of Mogadishu and into Kenya. We see the big old Vietnam-era C-130 gunships with the 20mm Vulcan electric cannons spitting out a virtual garden hose of red tracers into the night. It's like, "Yeah man! Kill them fuckin' ragheads! GO BUSH!"

What's the matter, defeat-o-crats, I guess you'd like it better if the Al Qaeda scum were shown killing our fine Marine heroes, right?

In third world countries when the dictator wants to get the people aroused for war, the TV stations usually start playing martial music.

Please write to CNN today and tell them that they need to start playing the Star Spangled Banner and The Marine Hymn to go with the exciting pictures of our brave, victorious heroes whipping the enemy and winning the War on Tarrah.

And remember, when our Feckless Leader gets up to ask for more war tonight, you're either with him, or you are with Al Qaeda. Ain't no two ways about it!

  • Good. Bush must be overruled on this.

George W. Bush is a sociopath. It does not matter to him how many U.S. troops and Iraqis get killed or mutilated; he's in this either for his legacy, or because he believes that the Giant Flying Spaghetti Monster tells him that it is his destiny to "win" in Iraq (whatever the hell that means now).

Look, the guy blew up frogs for fun as a kid, and he executed more people than any other governor in the land. Do you all remember Tucker Carlson's reporting of how Bush mocked Karla Faye Tucker's pleas for leniency prior to her execution?

This man got into the Oval Office on a fluke, but that does not mean that we and the Iraqis must suffer his demented rule until 2008 (presuming he is willing to leave office, which right now we cannot be sure of; after all, the GFSM has annointed him). The House and Senate must end the Iraq war, now.

  • Sigh...

Alas, whiny liberals: The President is the commander-in-chief and gets to make these decisions.

    Deal with it.

  • We are dealing with it, md

We've taken back Congress, and we're putting the Preznit in his place. Deal with it, asshole.

  • On Dealing with IT:

Hmmm, I seem to recall that during the Kosovo dustup of the 1990s, the Republican Congress had no qualms about wanting to manage the military instead of Commander in Chief Bill Clinton.

But, of course, this is just another example of short Republican memories. For the last five years we've been hearing that nobody, but NOBODY can be allowed to criticize the president despite the fact that Republicans also lambasted LBJ during the Vietnam War, criticized Truman during the Korean War and savaged FDR during World War II. Bill Mauldin said that German propaganda leaflets used against American troops often quoted from the right-wing Chicago Tribune's anti-Roosevelt tirades.

  • Cornered and Wounded Animals Always Attack

Chas, I would give anything for you to be right about the Usurper squirming in defeat.

But the more he fails, the louder the calls for impeachment, the more likely he is to lash out with extreme violence.

At a minimum, I expect him to attack Iran in order to rally the country around him again.

If that fails, next will be an attack (either allowed or arranged by the shrubbies) on American soil with 10 times the casualties of 9/11.

If people are still daring to oppose him after that, he'll declare martial law, activate those concentration camps Halliburton is building out west and order the Aryan Nation militias to start rounding people up.

Then you can bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.
