I have a feeling his reluctance to run has more to do with a little, ahem, "accounting irregularity" within that HMO that his family owns.
...at least he'll get to live in the new mansion he's building, passing time in a home that bears more than a passing resemblance to the REAL White House and dreaming of what might have been. *sigh*
I don't know how much the mid-terms had with his decision. There are other reasons he'd have trouble:
1) Allegations of insider trading with HCA
2) Watching paint dry is more exciting than watching him speak
3) Terry Shiavo
4) In that vein, he seems to have had his social-conservative reawakening very recently. No one really thinks he is serious, just a panderer
As for how well panderers from Tennessee fair, see Harold Ford.
Show me any other Republican Assholes who ever let paranoid delusions or reality for that matter, stop them from spouting whatever insane retarded nonsense popped into heads. Frist won't run because he can't figure out how to raise the cash w/o sinking his own cash into the project.
Looks like he's finally pulling the plug on his political career. I hope there are some K Street openings for him.
...As Frist is so utterly charisma-free (as well as ethics-free) that it was going to be very entertaining seeing his delusions of White House residency quickly deflated. Would anyone seriously have been enthusiastic about a Frist campaign?
Although it may not bode well for Democrats chances of winning the White House in 2008, this is yet another Bushist Republican that will not be vying for the presidency. Amongst the most obvious candidates for the Republican nomination, there really is no obvious Bush heir. Allen could have been; Frist could have been. A few far right-wingers are still rumbling about running, but they will have a steep uphill climb. The top candidates all have some major policy differences with Bush. Guilliani, McCain and Romney all have some major policy differences with Bushist. Even if Condoleeza were to run, she would be viewed as Bush's heir, but she's apparently quite a bit more liberal on social issues than the president.
Credit the 2006 election with perhaps moderating the Republican Party and moving it away from hard-right Bushism. And although that may not be good for the Democrats, it's good for the country.
He is co-authoring a book on investments with Martha Stewart.
Americans (in the true sense of the word) are not clammoring for his kind of leadership. Maybe Frist should stay local, where one can only assume that due to his views, intolerance, bigotry, psuedo-Christian morals and good old, reliable fear tactics are alive and well. Oh, and don't forget Trent Lott and Mississippi....
Oh, please, Bill. Please run. Pretty please with sugar on top. I love to watch Republicans waste money.
Maybe the fact that Bill Frist was slammed in a Nashville exit poll during the midterm, indicating a lack of support in his home state, caused him thought. Bob Corker, the Republican won the Senate seat, but the poll showed that by a 44-to-37 percent margin, with 19 percent not answering, Tennesseeans declined to agree that Frist would make a good president.
