"When I was young and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible"

Serious Security Concerns

ABC News reports that:

"Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman."

How is this possible, unless they dismissed their security team? How reckless is that?

Don't assume there are no Secret Service agents nearby

A friend of the family is in the Secret Service and he told me that the agents assigned to the Bush twins are also young women, so one or more of the "friends" on the couch could have been agents. The agents did not chase down the pursesnatcher, because their job is to protect the person and not to be distracted, in case the crime was a diversion.

Why do I have a feeling...

35 years from now those two will be like Shelly Winters and Joan Rivers?

Like Father, Like Daughters

The apple or the acorn does not fall far from the tree. Now let's just hope they never have a "come to Jesus" moment where one of them will decide God wants her to be president years hence.

What, no pix?

Where are the papparrazi when we need them?

Monday, November 27, 2006 01:25 PM

MM81

Fine, everyone in the lobby was on their security team, MM81. That doesn't explain how someone can just walk up to one of the twins and start talking to her. Especially after the purse incident. And it says nothing about their refusing to go home despite the Embassy's requests.

When the revolution comes

This is why they shot all the Romanovs. Yes, even Anastasia.

Who Paid?

How did the twins get to Buenos Aires? By commercial air? By government aircraft for "security reasons"? Who paid?

Heaven forbid

that anything bad should happen to the Bush twins during their vacation. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. That being said, what's the difference between harm being done to one or both of them, or harm being done to any Iraqi citezen on a daily basis? I don't have to ask, "What makes them so special?" because that's obvious. But, in the grand scheme of things, "What makes them so special?"

Monday, November 27, 2006 07:37 PM

Sigh

That being said, what's the difference between harm being done to one or both of them, or harm being done to any Iraqi citezen on a daily basis?

The point of protecting the family members of powerful politicians is to prevent the entire country from being held hostage to the fate of a single late-adolescent vacationer. In this case it failed, since our our president basically IS a late-adolescent vacationer, but the practice is solid in principle.

Lest we forget that

One of the first George Bush acts was to rescind lifetime SS protection for ex Presidents and their families. He limited it to 10 years post - administration. So with any luck one or both of his drunk useless sorostitute daughters will pitch over a Mardi Gras balcony and land on her head. Or just OD or something and we won't have to pay attention to it anymore.

One has to ponder

how many Iraqi women turned 25 this past week and had an opportunity to fly to Argentina far away from the mayhem the twin's decider daddy started? One also should ponder just how many of those 25 year-old Iraqi women are scared to death just to go out food shoping much less be spirited out of the country for a joyous birthday adventure in Buenos Aires? Reality and the Bush family have never been in the same room.

Lifetime protection will return when Bush & clan need it

Rescinding Secret Service protection after 10 years was probably a symbolic jab at the Clintons and Carters. Since Bush has always acted in his own self-interest, I suspect that he will reinstate lifetime Secret Service protection for ex-Presidents and their families before he leaves office.

Unless he's not planning to leave office, that is.

Who wants to harm Jimmy Carter?

Bush will definitely bring back that lifetime SS coverage before he and Prince Cheney leave office. There probably aren't alot of people gunning for Pres Carter or Clinton, but given the world of hurt Bu$hco will be leaving behind based on their crappy policies, he's going to need lots of protection.

The Boys from Brazil

I'd like to see the media connect the dots between the 60K acres of land purchased by the Bush family in Paraguay, near the border with Argentina. The twins are just being shown how much fun they can have in South America, since their Dad is going to have to leave the country after we find out everything he's been up to..

No photo op is good photo op

Look, let's just all be happy the First Partygirls are apparently (for the moment) in one piece. I hadn't heard a word about them in so long I just assumed they were in rehab.

Second that Emotion

"Look, let's just all be happy the First Partygirls are apparently (for the moment) in one piece. I hadn't heard a word about them in so long I just assumed they were in rehab."

That puts me on the same page as Karen. Part of the office of president is ceremonial but the entire Bush family feel they are entitled to all the benefits of that office without putting in any elbow grease. Consider the intense light and expectations that were on the much younger Chelsea Clinton or Amy Carter. The entire First Family has been AWOL and the only way we learn of anything about them is through the tabloid press. Speaking of which, I hate to say I find the tabloids have more integrity than the White House Press Office, but I am inclined to believe the First Delinquents did engage in public nudity of some sort. Otherwise why else would our embassy take the extraordinary step of asking them to leave? Absent the purse-snatching, they have been in no other danger than alcohol poisoning.
