Disgusting
Glenn Beck should be fired.
-
Too bad we can't elect our press corps
that would be rewarding.
-
And he still has a job?
This confirms why I never watch Glenn Beck. Supremely idiotic. What was Ellison's response?
-
No News Reader Left Behind
I have long been a proponent of establishing minimum standards for politicians, and now I see that I must include News Readers as well. The standard, of course, need to be as high as those for politicians - reading and writing at a 6th grade level. Passing an EEG would be just fine.

Open mouth insert foot...chew vigorously
What an idiot.
-
Beck? Isn't that a German name?
And how would Glenn Beck "prove" that he's not a Nazi sympathizer?
I cite that because the current hysteria is like that during World War I, when self-important patriots would stomp into a German restaurant or tavern and loudly demand that Otto, the bartender, denounce the Kaiser. Or that sauerkraut should be renamed "Liberty cabbage."

sounds like the old line...
I'm not racist (anit-semitic, Insert Phrase here), why some of my best friends are black, jewish.....

Not so fast
Ellison has been receiving support from the Council on American-Islamic Relations. CAIR, despite its efforts to appear moderate, has been linked to the "truer" forms of Islamic expression.
*U.S. Senator Richard Durbin: "[CAIR is] unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its associations
with groups that are suspect"
*U.S. Senator Charles Schumer: "we know [CAIR] has ties to terrorism"
"intimate links with Hamas"
From Sept. 2003 Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism,
Technology and Homeland Security
I think the jury is out on Ellison, but I'm very worried and will certainly be watching him, as will millions of other concerned people. Beck is expressing his concerns a bit inelegantly (and unfocusedly) but any attempt by Ellison to walk America away from any of its Western liberal heritage should be strenuously resisted.

email CNN
Everyone email CNN and complain. This is beneath them. Remind them how much better MSNBC is looking these days. Glenn Beck is a moron. This is journalism? That we accept "questions" like those he posed as actual rather than thinly-veiled talking points with built-in attitudes for the public is a testament to how far we have fallen.
-
CNN
It's a variation on the old "some people say" tactic. I can't wait for Beck to be removed from CNN Headline news.
-
Voters get it
Seems to me that Mr Ellison has proved all he need to, to those he needs to prrove anything to, the voters of his district. They are obviously smarter than CNN newsheds.
-
Golden Boy
What sort of support does Ellison receive from CAIR? If money, how much? It's hard to say a politician supports terrorism just because some group supports him, unless the support is so significant that it suggests he's doing their bidding as in the case of so much pro-corporate legislation.
If you have some stats on what kind of support CAIR gave him and how much, I'd be interested.

As Far As I'm Concerned
Glenn Beck is an enemy of America. What religion is that big mouth pussy?
-
How to prove you're not America's enemy:
"Well, we kicked the Republicans out of power, didn't we?"
-
New rule
Anyone who uses the phrase cut and run immediately loses legitimacy. As far as I'm concerned, cut and run falls into the category of meaningless campaign and political slogans that journalists have no business using, joining such gems as compassionate conservative, the gay agenda, and flip-flopper.

Glenn Beck
actually was contracted to a long term deal with FOX but came to his first day on the job to the wrong studio and no ones has ventured to straighten-out the mess. Glenn is quite straightforward. I'm betting he'll be the first one to purchase O.J.'s new book. Here's how his follow-up interview will go:
"OK. No offense, and I know Murderers. I like Murderers. I've been to Murder sites. I really don't believe that Murderers are evil. I -- you know, I think it's being hijacked, quite frankly. With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not Murdering our enemies.' And I know you're not. I'm not accusing you of being a Murderer, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way."

Glenn Beck
Where did this spawn of Rush Limbaugh jackass come from, anyway? One night I'm watching what I think to be a reasonable network news program (CNN) and suddenly I'm confronted with this conservative yapping dog (Beck). While trying desperately to appear "fair and balanced", he will blind side those he interviews with O'Reilly-like invective. I am growing to loathe network news as they all feel the need to compete with Fox to show their lack of liberal bias. Beck is simply the latest offering from these ridiculous, ratings driven news organizations.

A theory about paranoia over Muslims
As a nation, we never slipped into completely irrational paranoia over Christianity, even after so-called Christian Indentity groups were directly tied to several major attacks and incidents -- and why is that?
Because we white-bread Americans (a group to which I technically belong) too easily fear "the other" -- and when that "other" LOOKS different from us, it's so much easier to stereotype, to fear and to HATE. Throw in the fact that Keith Ellison is black, and you have an irresistible mix for simple-minded people like Glenn Beck.
Has anyone in the media ever -- EVER -- asked other Christians to PROVE they aren't part of a group seeking to destroy the U.S. or its government, after Christian Identity groups were linked to the 1995 Oklahoma City federal building bombing? I seriously doubt it.
Being a Muslim no more makes you automatically part of radical Islamic plots against the U.S. than being a Christian makes you part of the crackpot Christian Identity movement.
Glenn Beck is a third-rate talking head who aspires to be the next Rush Limbaugh. How sad that CNN has stooped so low, giving precious time on a news channel to someone like him. If we want to hear such drivel, we can always tune in the real thing -- FauxNews, or Rush himself.
Incidentally, nobody should be fooled by the careful construction of Beck's question -- he took a page from the old Republican trick of prefacing an outrageous slur with "some people say" -- as though that protects the speaker from any responsibility for actually UTTERING the slur.
"Oh, don't look at me that way -- *I* don't agree with this, but SOME PEOPLE SAY IT." Yeah, right.
