Trent Lott, minority whip?

Looking to bounce back from the controversy that ended his time as Senate majority leader, Lott makes a play for power.

The letters thread is now closed.

Sadly,

Lott immediately withdrew his name from consideration on learning that the minority whip doesn't actually get to whip minorities.

If elected, Lott

would be a welcomed reminder to the moderate electorate of just how far the GOP has not come since 2002. If this is the best the GOP can offer in light of his Party's back-firing "Macaca Moment", then elect away you knuckleheads! These people just don't get it do they?

:D THIS is why I read the letters section.

Erechtheides:

I was going to award you snark of the day but this was so funny I award you snark of the week...and it's been a snarky week.

The Southern Strategery?

It seems to me Lott in this position does more good for the Democrats than the Republicans. The GOP already has the white former-Democrat-former-Dixiecrat vote in the Southern states locked up pretty well. It'll be a good reminder to the rest of the country that today's Republican party represents the post Civil Rights party switching remnants of the still racist pro-slavery ideology of the past.

I'd be more worried that the Republicans would do something to boost their western states profile. I'd REALLY get sick of seeing Orrin Hatch more than I already do; a higher profile for him would just be painful.

Lott's Have it!

Lott is a spectacular swampcreature, a reminder of how indebted the GOP is to the loons. I say "bring him on".

Why not?

Really, what's the difference. One's as good as the other.
