First...

Kevin Federline gets the axe, then Rumsfeld, then Democrats gain control of both houses-- there is a God.

I'm living in an alternate universe...

...where decency prevails, where people are held accountable, where incompetent chimps are called into question, where jackasses who screw up get fired, where legalized discrimination is wrong, where the religious right is where they belong - in a church, not in politics, where death threats, voter fraud, harassment of constituents, lying, stealing, cheating is all rewarded with a vote by the American people to take away the power of these corrupt, hypocritical, power hungry, fascists.... and I love it!

I welcome the long anticipated return of Democracy to the United States of America. In one short 24 hour period, the Republic is dead! The Democracy prevails!

Now let's fix this mess that these theocratic, weak, fear and hate filled bastards created.

Wow.

What a couple of days.

I can't tell if this is the end of 'A New Hope' or the end of 'Return of the Jedi.'

Wait. There's an Ewok dancing outside my window.

Sweet.

tooting the horn

As a Northern Virginian, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished. The GOP tried their share of dirty tricks (calling Dem voters and threatening them with arrest if they voted, telling Dem voters that their polling places had changed) to no avail. Finally, after years of paying the lion's share of the Commonwealth's taxes only to get shafted politically, with much of our money going to Richmond and farther south and west, we have been heard. We have a long way to go ... unfortunately the draconian anti-gay (and anti unmarried heterosexual couples) amendment did pass, and hopefully there will be a test case which will challenge the amendment, but in the meantime, I am thrilled beyond belief that our Commonwealth might be bluer with each election.

Sale at JCPenneys this Weekend

I hope when all the Democratic challengers were measuring their congressional offices for new curtains last week that they didn't actually pay for them.

They can get them much cheaper at the huge JCPenneys white sale this coming weekend.

Dem sweep!

Dems have the House, the Senate and the majority of governerships. I've waited a long time to feel this smug. And I like it. But I'm not sure how long it will last.

Doggone it,you like it and it feels good

This can't last. Can government reflect true democracy?

No. This won't last. But it feels good. Thank you, voters.

For reals?

Because it had been said a recount would take up to four weeks. I WANT to get happy, but I'm superstitious!

"Upset"? Yes

Don't put upset in the quotation marks. By doing so you diminish the scope of what Webb achieved. This was a huge upset if you view the time frame appropriately.

If you look from the perspective of one week ago it may not look like a huge upset. But four months ago, who gave the Democrats a prayer in Virginia. Allen was talked about in serious circles as a legitimate Vice Presidential or even Presidential candidate. Even after what one of you correspondents appropriately dubbed Macacalypse Now, he was still favored to win the Senate race.

So don't diminish Webb's achievement. This is a victory to savor because it is such an upset, when properly viewed.

I, for one, hope they are vindictive

The Republicans have governed the Senate and House as though they would never need to work with the Democrats again. I believe Salon has reported on some of these things, in passing, but I'll give a few examples.

When the Senate and House pass similar bills, there are always differences which must be reconciled. Each body must pass the exact same bill, and to accomplish this, there is a cross-body "reconciliation committee." Traditionally the majority parties have more seats in this committee. The Republicans decided that the Democrats wouldn't even be allowed to attend the meetings.

Democrats have been shouted down and obstructed at every turn, in rather childish fashion, most famously when, after a hearing on the Patriot act, they tried to hold a press conference and question witnesses critical of the administration. Sensenbrenner (R) cut off the microphones.

'Pubs have attempted to stifle any debate on judicial nominees and all but questioned the patriotism of Dems who tried, raising a big fuss about a grand total of 4 hard right judges the Dems shot down. When compared to an enormous amount that Clinton nominated who were never allowed a floor vote or even debate because the Rethugs never let them get out of the conference committee, this rings a little hollow.

There are far too many examples of new powers that the Rethugs have granted themselves to enumerate here. I expect that the Dems are going to have short memories, as usual, and go back to being relatively "bipartisan."

Here's to hoping that doesn't happen. I want to see some dirty fighting for a change. This turn the other cheek nonsense has gone on long enough. Where did it get us? It didn't get us a place at any of the Rethugs' tables, did it? They see any minor slight, real or perceived, as a major attack on everything they stand for, and probably treasonous to boot. Then when they get power, they pretend that they are just doing what the Dems would do if they were in charge, and act like the thugs they are.

It's a common schoolyard bullying tactic. Just think, "Hey, are you looking at me?"

For once, I hope the answer is, "Yes. We are looking at you."

Macaca

"done learn't a lesson". Bye, bye, you knucklehead. Hello, clearer thinking. Too bad Joey isn't posting anymore. I'd bet his pee-ring was oversized, just like his Party's ambition, when the dust settled. A neutered neo con blogger is a wonderful thing. Nonetheless I must say I am in total amazement that the Dems finally figured-out how to play the game. Go Palosi!!!

I'm happy...

that we live in a country where this kind of change can happen and it's purely based on the voice of the citizens. No voter fraud, re-districting, lobbyists, or special interests accomplished this

I don't agree with most of the "progressives" views, we'd be awash in claims of voter fraud if this went the other way, but this election more than any talk will help us get the hearts and minds of the world. Iraquis now see clearly the full benefits of a true democracy.

Whether you're Republican or Democrat this has to be viewed as one of the proudest moments in our history.
