No, it isn't!
It's like eating one potato chip.

I See...
That the Right has moved on to the Bargaining phase of the grieving process.

Bitter, Angry, Hateful
I've spent the day in an office full of fanatic, bush-loving, wingnut republicans who are on the verge of going Columbine.
People who just yesterday were perfectly civil, pleasant professionals, despite their political beliefs, have turned into spiteful children, sulking and refusing to speak to those of us known to be democrats.
We democrats, by the way, have been careful since we walked in the door not to gloat, comment or even smile. We knew many of our coworkers would be unhappy today and because we like them had no wish to aggravate their pain.
But our courtesy has been repaid with bitter anger.
Let this be a warning to Congressional Democrats: no amount of magnanimity, courtesy or bipartisanship is going to get through to the republicans. They have already declared war on all democrats, and any gesture toward peace or cooperation is going to be interpreted as weakness and exploited ruthlessly.
In our office, we democrats have learned to our sorrow that these people were never really our friends. They only treated us that way as long as they were in power and we were the conquered race.
Remember: when the lynch mob comes, the "nice coloreds" get lynched right next to the "uppity niggers."

HELL, no.
Not if that's the only change! It ain't just personalities -- it's policies and practices WAY more than the names of the people who happen to be doing the dirty work for Dubya!

Off Topic but...
Wondering where "joe" is today... :)
-
Where's joe?
"joe" must be one of Yellow Dog's bitter, angry, hateful co-workers..either that or he's still sleeping off last night's boozer.
-
Wear protection, Yellow-dog!
I bring a kevlar vest to work from now on! You're right about trying to be civil and magnanimous with these repugs. It just blows back on you, so forget it!
-
Why do I find it hard to believe ...
... that Yellow Dog has been careful not to "gloat, comment or even smile" at his place of employment about the can of whup-ass opened on the GOP last night?
Just teasing, 'Dog.
Some Republican co-workers I've talked to aren't happy with the results, but appear resigned. Others are not especially crushed: they know W. is a failure. Then again, they're not part of the party's right wing, so they don't see the loss as an insult to Jesus.

As noted zoologist Pat Buchanan pointed out the other day . . .
how long will throwing Rumsfeld off the sleigh satisfy the pack of wolves?
Answer: Not for one fucking minute.
Next steps:
1. Serve the subpoenas on Rumsfeld - he's now a private citizen and executive privilege does not protect him.
2. Robert Gates has got some 'splaining to do about Iran-Contra before we give him the keys to the Pentagon.
3. Since Dubbya is apparently pissed off at Cheney - might as well drop a coupla subpoenas off at the Vice Presidential mansion.
The thumpin' is just the start of Georgie's miseries.

This new world tweaks their dysfunctions
No, the truest of the true believers have all along hoped that Bush et al would build a world for them in which they could be comfortable - a world where compassion is seen as a defect, a world where the nastiest people win by default because the nice people will never fight back in the same way, a world where the the hard working, deserving people on Wall Street and the executives in the pharmaceutical and insurance industries, not to mention CEOs everywhere are admired as those who deserve every penny of over-the-top wealth they can accumulate by knowing how to game the system they, themselves, have designed for their own benefit.
They thought they could pull this off, even though they knew all along it was wrong, but the public woke up, discovered why their back orifices were hurting so much and resoundingly pushed away those who were the source of their pain. Now, those dysfunctional folks who attached their hopes and dreams to Bush must move toward functioning in the world in which the rest of us live, where mutual respect, decency, and an honest day's pay for an honest day's work still count for something, and it's going to be very, very hard on them. Some of them will adjust, some of them will self destruct (better keep an eye on Limpbulb's oxycontin supply), some of them will redouble their efforts to reinstall the wool over the public's eyes and some of them will indeed go Columbine. Better keep the Kevlar and the number for the nearest detox center handy.

Mr. President, That "thumpin" you heard
was the wheels coming off the republican machine...at high speed no less.
-
Here's what would satisfy me
Orange Jumpsuits
Plastic Handcuffs
A Federal Prison in Alaska
A Hostage Situation
Suicide By Cop
Your widows and children curled in the fetal position, weeping
For a start. Just a start.

George Burns and Gracie Allen, a great comedy team from 1930s radio
Conrad Burns and George "Macaca" Allen: a great contemporary comedy team, making us all laugh while they stubbornly refuse to accept reality.
Just a couple of "dead enders" in their "last throes." But their song and dance will never match the original Burns & Allen.
It should be over soon.

The Merit Badge That Dare Not Speak its Name
So, in the finest of recent republican traditions, the nominee for Secretary of Defense Gates is the president of the National Eagle Scouts Association (according to wiki).
And you know what that means...

No Gloating
Kevin 0211: It wasn't easy! But being exhausted after staying up all night watching the returns helped. Molly Ivins strongly advised gloating only in the presence of fellow dems, and I always take Molly's advice.
-
Bush critics?
Don't these GOP knuckleheads read? Aparently the "shallow gene pool" is rather large. Tell them all to "squeeze it". We had to put up with this macaca for six years. I feel bad for those clear tinnkers who have work-places filled with "dead-enders". As a college Professor, I have had the good fortune of being surrounded with elated and energized colleagues who tipped good wine and sang songs of praise for the "new régime". King George is and will always be a putz.
