Why do I have the weird feeling that sometime in the next week or so we're going to hear Haggard, or someone speaking for him, essentially say that he just had oral sex with Mike Jones, and that means he really didn't have a "gay relationship" and that he really didn't cheat on his wife?

It's so seldom the right is willing to eat crow. I'd love to see you eat some. You might want to psych yourself up for it, because odds are pretty high you're gonna be breathin' feathers in the next day or so..

Just read on the web site for a Denver TV station that Haggard's accuser is refusing to release his so-called evidence. Won't even show it to the AP.

Yeah, this guy has a lot of credibility.

I have known Ted Haggard personally and doubt the validity of this claim. Anything can be true, we all have our temptations and failures, but this seems so out of character for him. I think all of us would be better to presume innocence before assuming guilt.

Note the resignation is only temporary, was voluntarily done by Ted Haggard and is a normal administrative policy. This is not any admission of guilt. This is just another move by someone to discredit another person in authority who has taken a stand against their beliefs.

Aside from the delicious irony of it all, if true, the bright side is that at least Haggard's male prostitute (this one anyway) isn't a juvenile.

Haggard also resigned as head of the National Association of Evangelicals. He wouldn't have done that in response to totally baseless allegations.

The Harper's article said that in the early days of his church, Haggard would hang out in gay bars trying to recruit men for his church. How many straight men hang out in gay bars just because they are trying to "save" the gay men in the bars? Would that even be tolerated by the patrons in the bars?

I am the first democratic candidate in about 20 years to run in Colorado's 9th Senate District THis is where the Air Force Acdemy, New Life church and Focus on the Family exist. My opponent is Dave Schultheis. I have only seen him twice and he wasn't addressing an audience. Just google his name and read about him in the Greeley Tribune.

Last week on Oct 27 I received a letter at my doorstep (I live two blocks from Focus on the Family and 4 miles from New Life Church)from NLC inviting "all candidates" to a meet and greet at their church an hour before each service that Sunday.

So I went. I resented the fact that this mega church had placed a passive, coercive demand on my last week campaign plans. The thought of campaigning in a church seemed so dirty. And I told Kyle Fisk (who is a pastor at the Boulder Street Church [part of New Life] and the GOP candidate running against our lone democratic incumbent mighty Mike Merrifield) just that. I allowed two men to 20 question me about abortion and my definition of family. They both said I did a good job answering their questions...whatever that means. All in all it was a painful experience. It just didn't seem right to be there... but what was my choice? Hide in fear? Let a demogague lie?Never!

But today I am sad. I am sad for Haggard's family and all his followers. This Church is their life. You have to go just once and see what its all about.

What has happened in the last 24 hours is like, well for me at least, finding out that Neil Young was really a racist homophobe corporate bastard who never wrote any of his music. That's how the New Life Congregation must feel about Pastor Ted.

Reality check: Five RR candidates are running in northern Colorado Springs. Kyle Fisk, Amy Stephens, Kent Lambert, Doug Lamborn and my buddy Dave Schultheis. THEY ARE ALL PART OF FOCUS ON THE FAMILY OR NEW LIFE CHURCH. Kent is running for Dave's seat and Dave is running for Doug's seat and Doug is running for retired Hefley's seat... who refused to endorse Doug Lamborn because of his "sleazy" campaign tactics during the GOP primary.

The acting senior pastor at New Life, Ross Parsley, told KKTV-TV of Colorado Springs that Haggard admitted that some of the accusations were true, but Parsley did not elaborate. A telephone number for Parsley could not be found late Thursday.
