Reynolds' chief of staff resigns, blames Democrats

Kirk Fordham tried to strike a deal to keep Foley's IM exchanges out of the public view.

The letters thread is now closed.

Place your bets

Interesting over the next few days will be to see who will lay down and "take one for the team" and who will work overtime to throw somebody else under the bus in their place.

Tis a far, far better thing...

Beautiful. The heads have begun to roll. I love to see vile, power-mad hypocrites be taken down by their own mendacity. It's even sweeter that the Democrats didn't do it...as long as they strategically exploit the hell out of it.

Hope you enjoyed your 12 years ruining this country, guys. You're gone.

Delicious

Who knows how many closeted reichwingers would love to lay down and take one for the team, repeatedly. Unfortunately, since the media can only deal with one or two subjects a week, now we have the hideous Amish murders and the Foley follies blotting out Allengate, the upsurge of body counts in Afghanistan and Eye-rack, and the whole festering rest of the Bushit disaster team. The worst administration in American history, and worsening by the week.

Kirk Fordham

might be able to sleep tonight. The same can not be said for his sleezy ex-boss, Tom Reynolds. I'd bet there is an abundance of sweat on Tommy's upper lip right now. Maybe he can cluster a bunch of scared kids around him again as a sick cloak to once again blame the Dems for his underling's demise. Maybe he should wipe his upper lip and quit. Fat chance. Bottom feeders rarely surface, rarely see the light...

Fall guy

As a Dem, I'd have preferred to see his boss take the fall, not him. This is just Reynold's attempt to placate the questions he's getting about his involvment. He now thinks he can claim he's done the right thing...again.

Domino theory?

As each resignation comes in, it seems to make others much more likely -- so who's next? Rep. Reynolds himself is in a bad spot too (who believes Fordham would try to cut a deal for former boss Foley without the knowledge of new boss Reynolds?) -- but Shimkus and Hastert aren't much more secure themselves. All bets are off, of course, if something new and really spicy is uncovered.

I'm starting to understand the pure joy conservatives felt when the Monica Lewinsky scandal erupted way back when -- such an unexpected gift, and such a rush of pleasure!

There really needs to be a word to describe this -- we usually use "Schadenfreude", but that's far too generic. It's so much more than simply taking pleasure at the misfortune of others -- the fall of such complete hypocrites is so WELL DESERVED -- there ought to be a specific word for that concept!

Any wordsmiths out there have suggestions for a better word to use?

and another thing...

Kirk Fordham resigns, blames the Democrats

Hitler resigns, blames the Allies

Mussolini resigns, blames the Germans

Sadam resigns, blames the Collalition of the Willing

Bin Ladin resigns, blames Christian Right

Rumsfeld resigns, blames the Iraquis

Cheney resigns, blames Intellectuals

Bush resigns, blames Congressional Pages...

Gerechtigkeitfreude

Taking joy when justice is served.

Preserve all records? Right!

the FBI has now told House officials to "preserve all records" related to the GOP congressman's communications with current and former pages.

Which is probably another way of saying, "Gentlemen, start your shredders!"

Fox News Updates on SpankTheFoleyMonkeyGate and other developments

QUARRYVILLE, Pa. (Fox News) - When the deputy coroner (R-Pa) reached the Amish schoolhouse, she found blood on every desk, every window broken and the body of a young girl (R-Pa) slumped beneath the chalkboard. Ten (R-Pa) children had been shot, five fatally, and the gunman (D-Pa) was dead.

“It was horrible. I don’t know how else to explain it,” Amanda Shelley (R-Pa), deputy Lancaster County coroner, said Wednesday. “I hope to never see anything like that again in my life.”…

Authorities say Charles Carl Roberts IV (D-Pa) had started buying supplies for a long siege six days before he stormed the tiny schoolhouse. He made a checklist of what to bring and wrote out four suicide notes, one talking about how he (D-Pa) was “filled with so much hate” and “unimaginable emptiness.”…

Roberts (D-Pa) had brought lubricating jelly to the schoolhouse and may have planned to sexually assault the (R-Pa) Amish girls, State Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller (R-Pa) said. He said a piece of lumber found in the school had 10 large eyebolts spaced about 10 inches apart, suggesting that Roberts (D-Pa) may have planned to truss up the girls…

IN OTHER NEWS:

Mark Foley (D-FL), according to his lawyer, "takes full responsibility" for his (D-FL) immoral acts. Oh, and BTW, he (D-FL) was abused by a priest as an adolescent (cue weepy music) and is gay (D-FL) and an alcoholic (D-FL). But, none of those (D-FL) characteristics have any bearing on his current (D-FL) "off-safely-to-rehab-sanctuary" problem, wink, wink.

Democrats make child abuse an issue

Is there any way this tact cannot backfire? Do they really think they can difuse this Foley scandal by saying Democrats are trying to make a big deal out of it? Isn't that the same as saying that the GOP does not want to make a big deal out of it? Are they insane?

Its almost as ludicrous as their arguement that they would have looked into the child molestation case except that Democrats told them to not to discriminate against gay people.

Time To Rename The GOP

Surrrre Kirk Fordham resigned to minimize his boss' public humiliation.

Surrrre nebulous Democrats are interested in the Foley scandal because of the November elections.

While we're at it, in the interest of truth in advertising, why not reconfigure the Republican Party acronym? Here are some suggestions:

Gross Oglers of Pages

Grinners Overlooking Pedophilia

Generally Overlooks Problems

Gang Of Perverts

Gropers, Oglers, and Pedophiles

Gerechtigkeitfreude?

I stutter when I try to say it and I even use to speak German. Still, I like it. Pleasure with justice...only a terrorist could be against that.

Or a republican maybe

Wednesday, October 4, 2006 12:32 PM

Gerechtigkeitfreude it is!

While it doesn't flow smoothly off the tongue, it nearly perfectly expresses the concept. Thanks, "verbs-and-spices."

Gerechtigkeitfreude, or taking joy from justice -- what a truly American ideal!

Unless somebody comes up with a better suggestion, this is IT. Nothing about which to feel uncomfortable -- taking pleasure from the misfortune of others implies touches of sadism and envy that really have no part in my reaction to the Foley affair. These guys had it coming!
