Many Shia speak Farsi and are Persians, not Arabs. Sunni have many ethnicities within, from Kurds on. These ethnicities fight each other. There are also dark and light skinned groups among Arabs. Add religious variants like Sufi, Wahhabism, etc and you have a more complex group than Lott understands.
Pork gets Lott re-elected, not judgement. One of his favorite tactics is to shake down the US Navy for ships they neither want nor need, to be built in the Lott family shipyards in Mississippi, bringing lots of pork and contracts to the area. Cut off the pork and he will be in trouble.
The division between Sunni and Shia occurred in the decades after the Prophet Mohammed's death. The Sunni believed that the leadership of the caliphate (okay, I cheated -- I looked up how to spell caliphate. I'm dyslexic) should pass to the most capable leader, who was, at that time, a man who was one of the Prophet's main allies. Shia believed that the post should remain within the direct line of the Prophet's family through his daughter, Fatima. There was a big battle at Karbala in Iraq. The Sunni won and the leader of the Shia was hacked to pieces. This is why the vast majority of Moslems worldwide are Sunni and the Shia stronghold is within what is now referred to as the infamous Shia triangle of Iran, Iraq etc.
All this reminds me of the big difference between the Terries and the Firmies who lived under Duckburg in the Scrooge McDuck comics and caused earthquakes. You may have to Google this one.
Perhaps the Orange Men in Ireland can point out to Mr Lott how
one can kill someone of the same ethnic group - and racial background, over religious/political belief You think??
Just maybe there is a Christain/Islamic parallel??
Without consulting Google or any other website, you must write a summary of the differences between Sunni and Shiite Islam. You must list the main factions and their leaders and explain the source of conflict between the two.
You did it, right? Goddam cheater. You cheated, didn't you?
Ask Strom Thurmond. He'll explain it to you.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
"They all look the same to me ... and if only they had voted for Strom Thurmond they wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years."
No, my friend, it would appear that the Senator (with his perfectly coiffed hair, much like Senator Sanctimonius from PA) from MS is actually every bit as stupid and bigoted as he sounds. Never mind the mea culpa he made on BET a while back when he was longing for those joyful days when "those people" (black people, women and other kinds of brown people) knew their place. You remember. Back when he was saying that the country wouldn't have had "all these problems" if they'd just seen reason and elected Strom Thurmond President. Even the president, who, by several degrees is worse than Strom Thurmond would've been, wouldn't get behind Sen. Trent on that issue. Yes he is every bit as stupid, every bit as clueless, every bit as racist as he sounds. When I think about this, I shouldn't be surprised at all at the mess we're in. Look who we have representing us. I'm sure good, God-fearing Republican white folk in MS are just cool with Sen. Lotts of Rocks, but I'd wager that the rest of MS aint too pleased with their representation thus far. They're not alone.
People fight for the same reason all over the world. They have a view of the world they are convinced is right, often divine in its inspiration, and will not tolerant anyone having a different view.
I am grateful that I can still recognize a racist moron when I see or hear one.
If Lott said that, and he was serious? What exactly is it Mississippi GOP voters are drinking in the water down there? That they could vote for such an ignorant dick-head?
They all look the same. Right. Trent's used to being able to recognize the object of his bigotry. I guess religious and cultural differences are too subtle for him.
Jee-ZUS. Is Lott as utterly moronic as he sounds in saying something like that? Or was it a bit of red meat for his know-nothing constituents? Someone clarify this for me. Surely the man CAN'T be that stupid. Can he?
It cracks me up when you hear media or pundits say things like musicians, artists, or "Hollywood," should stay out of politics. "Bono and Springfield and Sting should keep their mouths shut." We should let the "experts" handle it. The experts being career politicians. In fact, an overwhelming number of career politicians are average people, albeit with extraordinary power. They perhaps have particular personality traitsm such as unbridled arrogance, that help them get elected. In general, however, they have mediocre minds and a muddled morality.
the war in Iraq? The Rethuglicans are fooling themselves if they think ordinary people aren't "obsessing" over the Iraq war. It is our wives, husbands, nieces, nephews, sons, and daughters who are on their second, third, and fourth tours of duty. The Rethuglicans think "ordinary" people are people like Kenny Boy Lay, may his soul burn for all eternity.
