One More Voice
I did what any American citizen should do: called my elected representatives and expressed my outrage. I called Sen. Kerry, Rep. Pelosi, and Sen. Reed. I will call the elected representatives of my state to express my outrage. Once they feel pressure from THE PEOPLE, they will act. To all my brothers and sisters here in the Salon, I say keep the pressure up. Don't give in to cynicism(?). WE must fight.
When the people lead, the leaders will follow. That's the way democracy has been advanced in this country, by pressure from the electorate, not by the so-called "principled" leaders that are up there (or down there, in my case) in Washington, D.C. That's being part of the process, part of the solution. Don't wait to be dictated to. SPEAK UP! This is your government, our government, our country. LET'S TAKE IT BACK!

Forget about it
After reading this article, I won't waste my time voting for the Democrats. I'm sick and tired of their utter lack of any backbone whatsoever. Why waste time voting for an "opposition" party, which bends over backwards to suck up to the party in power? Now they're supporting the torture bill?!! What's next? What will this administration do that Democrats will actually oppose?
When the Democrats grow a spine, I'll be the first to support them. But right now, I don't feel like voting for Republicans-lite.

Call and email your representative asap
I am so outraged that I emailed Harry Reid even though I do not live in Nevada. Since he one of the major voices of the party, I felt it necessary and relevant to do so. I encourage everyone who reads this to do the same. Email or call your own representative as well.
I cannot stand by and watch everything our country stands for be flushed down the toilet due to fear of losing a cushy job in the House or Senate. If not, I will look back and wonder what I could have done to prevent our goose step towards totalitarianism.
Call it naive if you like, but I believe they will listen if enough Democratic voices are raised in protest.

Can it be any more clear
that the democratic party is either completely incompetent, or are actuall in cahoots with the Republican party? They are most certainly not an oposition party.
Down with the democratic party, up with anything else.

Letter I wrote to Pelosi
As much as I hate to say "please" in this situation, PLEASE do not vote to allow Bush's torture policy. Enough is enough! I have seen our civil liberties be stripped, so many people killed in the baseless Iraq war, people TORTURED with PLENTY of evidence for this accusation in our various "secret" prisons, no accountability, no resolution, just a nation more and more divided and wounded by our politicians actions.
I got into a huge fight with my dad right before the Iraq war started - I said we shouldn't go there when we have made such a mess in Afghanistan. He claimed not only were we doing good in Afghanistan, we were defeating the Taliban, Best Westerns were being built on every corner, and that Osama Bin Laden was as good as caught. He said we would use the procedes from the oil in Iraq to pay for the rebuilding there and that they would welcome us with open arms. NONE OF THIS HAS HAPPENED! And then, to top it all off, there are far worse atrocities than what the American public was wrongly led to believe would happen as a result of our unilateral actions.
THIS MUST STOP NOW! Someone needs to put their foot down. Our government can't just keep running ripshod over the world. And it's own people.
Support the troops. Support humanity. STOP THE TORTURE! Don't give BUSH a blank check!
I am so frustrated I have been writing everyone I can think of on this. I would never in my life have believed my own country would do so many wrongs in the world.
STOP IT NOW!

They don't deserve our vote

Extreme Politics
I'm starting to feel like the two political parties are like the "good guys" and "bad guys" in all-star wrestling. They slug it out to keep the masses entertained - but whoever wins the same corporations make all the money.

My letter
I sent the following to my representative (Joe Crowley of New York's 7th CD) and Senators Schumer and Clinton. I also sent it to Rep Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid.
"I am appalled to read that some Democrats actually support President Bush's sick attempt to legalize torture and suspend habeas corpus. I hope you are not among them.
Torture is not an effective means of gathering information. It endangers our men and women in uniform.
Legalizing torture and suspending habeas corpus even for terrorism suspects will put us on the road to tyranny.
Let me be clear about this. I am a Democrat and have always voted for Democratic candidates, but I will not, I cannot, vote for anyone who supports the legalization of torture or the suspension of basic civil rights."

The only critisim I have
Is that there is no bill number, name of the bill, who authored it so that I can find out the voting on it and be clear in my letter to my representatives.
I am currently looking up my state and country representatives, but it's hard for me to check the voting record later on it when I don't know the bill number.
So if anyone could direct me where to find that information, that would be awsome.

On the democrats..
Hey, just face it, the democrats are (with a few exceptions) *just as corrupt as the Republicans*. In the "history for dummies"-books, it will read something like: The American hegemony lasted from the end of the cold war into the second decade of the new millenium, before collapsing completely into chaos. The main reason for this, historians agree, was the blatant corruption and lack of competence evidenced on all levels of the american society." We can only hope for the super-volcano to kill you all, before you go into evangelical nuclear apocalypse frenzy. I hearby declare the US a fascist country, where state-corporatism has replaced the idea of the representative politicans. Good f%&$ing luck, boys. (and the chauvinist in me advices all US women to start breeding with us Europeans, thatgentler kinder race...;-))
