Enough lies
Can anyone tell me PLEASE....when will someone, anyone,
preferably live on television, ask President Bush and his crowd,
namely, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice: STOP lying to the American
people and the rest of the world for that matter? Please note that
this President is up again to his old game at planting fear in the country
just before mid-term elections. I am dearly waiting for that day.

it pains me to say it, but maybe chris hitchens was right
No, not about Saddam's attempts to get yellowcake from Nigeria. He's still a crackpot on that one. I mean about Ari Fleischer. Yesterday, Hitch wrote a piece for Slate defending Fleischer's "watch what you say" comment. He made the point that if you read the whole transcript, Fleischer appears to be commenting both on what Bill Maher said and on a racist comment made by a Republican congressman. It really does appear that Fleischer's choice of words were poor. Instead of an ominous and intimidating message, it ironically looks more like a call to people to be more politically correct in their own choice of rhetoric given the heightened sensitivity of the times. Maybe, as Hitch suggests, it's time the left drops the bashing of Fleischer on this particular point. There are plenty of other legitimately ominous, intimidating and un-American rhetoric to bash the Bush gang on.

Bush has proven that he can not lead
After 9/11 everyone gave Bush their full support and he betrayed us. Bush and the Republicans have already shown that they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
The only support Republicans can count on are those partisans so enamored by power that they don't care about consequences for anyone else and those who are too ignorant to notice that what Bush says and what he does are two different things.
Will this be enough for his party to retain power in 2006? I hope not.

speeking the unvarnished truth
I hope people saw Keith Oberman's 9/11 commentary leading into the President's speech last night. It should be reprinted on every editorial page across the country. I suspect Mr. Oberman would have no problem challenging the President, vice President, Rumsfeld or Rice face to face. Too bad he'd never get the chance.

Good job Tim
"As president, Bush declared that you're either "with us" or "with the terrorists," and his administration has made it clear over the past five years that while foreign governments only sometimes have to make that either/or choice, the American people always do."
Very nice line. Just wanted to give you some props as the kids say.
I echo the sentiment about Olbermann's editorial last night. It was stunning and sober.

Spinning out of control
Read this excellent commentary by Keith Olbermann.

Disappointing, but not surprising
"When the president said Monday night that Americans must "put aside our differences and work together," he gave no sign that this politics-free coming together would be anything other than a one-way deal. You put aside your differences, you work together with me, and I'll be the president who wages war, expands the power of the executive branch and presides over two more of these unhappy anniversaries."
Yes. And that's exactly what Bush promised he would do. No surprises.
In fact, most of the time, Bush has done exactly what he has promised to do. The people who are surprised by his results are the people who did not understand what he was saying at the time.
But this kind of "dividing", these cheap attacks and aspersions, are exactly what Bush said would get if he was elected.

Call His Bluff
Democrats should call Bush's bluff. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi should get up in their respective chambers and say this:
We agree with the President. This is the battle of the 21st century and all Americans must sacrifice.
The war to save our civilization will cost a lot of money. We offer legislation to repeal the tax cuts for the wealthy of 2001, 2002 and 2003. We also offer legislation to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans.
This money will targeted to ensuring our men and women in uniform and our intelligence agencies have every weapon necessary to find and destroy the terrorists and bring peace and freedom to the world. It will also be used to supply the poorest areas of the world with clean drinking water, food and healthcare. It will also be used to provide guaranteed healthcare to the most vulnerable Americans: the poor, the elderly and children.
We offer legislation to bring back the selective service system. All Americans aged 17 to 34 will have to register and will be selected by lot to serve in uniform. There will be NO exceptions other than those of conscience. Conscientious objectors will be required to serve the government in other ways. We will create a 5 million person army. This army will go wherever terrorism threatens the fabric and fiber of our civilization.
We offer legislation to create special courts to handle terrorist cases. Those accused will have rights to counsel, to see the evidence against them and to help prepare their defense. These courts will show the world that the United States stands behind the words of its Constitution and its Bill of Rights.
We agree with the President. This is the battle of the 21st century to save our way of life. We must all sacrifice. It is time for all Americans to come together to defend the freedoms and rights we hold so dear against those who would take them away. To quote Franklin Delano Roosevelt, "The American people in their righteous might will achieve the inevitable victory, so help us God."

Behind him?
Was that an invitation to kiss his ass? No thanks ,but no thanks. Lets all hope that November will make him to eat his words and start to bring him where he belongs: Fort Leavenworth.
