OMG! Harris has lost the last of her marbles...
Harris said: "...it's going to be a very frightening proposition in 2008 in the presidential elections because whoever wins Florida will win the presidency."
So according to Ms Harris, either she or Nelson will be the next president of the US. I shudder to think about it.
that strong sense of denial and unaccountability is contagious! Must be handed out in Kool Ade or something.
My Gawd, this is a full-blast attempt at pandering to the churchy folk.
If this works, it will confirm all my worst beliefs. I guess it's a regular part of politics here in Flo'dah where midwestern conservatism meets deep-south holy rollers. The Tampa Trib had a column today by the sardonic Daniel Ruth about one of the Tampa Bay churches demanding of candidtaes how they will vote on things like gay marraige and legislation against topless bars.
If it doesn't work, it will be an interesting indicator, because it just might show that the pandering doesn't work the way it has been working at bringing busloads of the washed-in-the-blood-of-the-lamb people to the polls.
Maybe she's counting on those balloons of hers to float her up to heaven.
The word picture of Harris coated in the blood of Jesus seeing herself as pure as snow is repugnent. Even this atheist knows that a belief that Jesus died for your sins and has the power to offer forgivness does not equate to a "get out of jail free card" rendering you completely blameless for any harm you cause during your life.
I'm praying that by the grace of God you never hold an elected position again.
Or any other position where you can abuse your power.
It's just not the Christian thing to do, ya' know.

Christianity, in Katherine's book, is about being a delusional, self-aggrandizing liar. That may be true of some of our elected officials who boast about what great Christians they are, but I don't find Harris' behavior exactly in line with the Gospels.

When I heard Katherine Harris was running for Senator, I screamed, "Jesus Christ Almighty!!"
For some reason whenever I hear the likes of Katherine Harris or any of the the other whacked out conservatives, christians and Republicans talk about heaven I'm reminded of Bette Davis' famous quote:
"If Joan Crawford is in Heaven I don't want to go there."

"...If you are not electing Christians, tried and true, under public scrutiny and pressure, if you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin."
Her campaign later clarified that voters in Connecticut should disregard this portion of her statement.
(I'm kidding of course; she has no "campaign".)

The prospective Senator may wish to read the Constitution that creates that office, if she's so interested in the job. There she would find, in Article VI, Section III, this prohibition:
"...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."
There's far too much nonsense in her statements -- those of them that come closer to forming coherent thoughts, anyway -- to bother addressing them. (I will just note that those other, poor pitiful non-Christian nations "who don't know better" and who we will lead astray already have reproductive rights and protections, many have gay marriage or civil unions, and almost all have a far greater social safety net to take care of the "least among us," as Jesus might say.)
But I think it does bear noting that she is running for an office whose qualifications for holding, as stated in the founding document of the country, she seems blissfully unaware of.
The moniker of the neocon christians. I don't know why she hasn't been appointed to a position as one of Condi's undersecretaries or an underling for Donald Rumsfeld....She's certainly qualified, and they all owe her for her good christian work in 2000....
Who knows, good christian that she is, maybe she can get Jesus to rig (I mean intercede with) the 2006 election the same way she did in 2000.
If Katherine Harris is defeated in her Senate race, she'll be available to be renominated as Head Vote-Counter and Election-Fixer in Florida, positioned to deliver the state to the GOP nominee (Jeb?) in 2008.
All the things Katherine Harris said are standard fundamentalist positions in standard fundamentalist jargon. You can hear the same ideas in the same words every day on "Christian" radio talk shows, plus a lot more.
Please tune in your local Christianist on the radio, and listen for a week or so. And maybe send the radio host a few mild, reasoning e-mails. Try to build a bridge, and get rejected, and realize how odd and fierce these people are.
Please listen to these Pharisees, and realize that they are all around us, all around the USA.
It appears, though, that they may have peaked. They cannot get anybody elected just by themselves. And they hate everybody else, so they will not make many more political alliances. Perhaps we can survive them.

Someone needs to ask her this ASAP, as if she needed another nail driven into her electoral coffin. And Katie: you can love God's son all you want; he's got a long memory, and you ain't gettin' into heaven after what you did in 2000.

Answer: Yes. No separation between church and state is one of the widely-accepted "moderate" Christianist positions.
An example of their sweeping, detailed silliness: They would outlaw Yoga. They see Yoga as demon worship. And these are not even the truly far-out fundamentalists.
An example of how dangerous they are: They do not allow women to be pastors in their churches. They would not let women hold any positions of authority over men.
But, there probably are not enough of them actually to take over the USA. Let us work to expose them. The truth will set us free.
