This story ties nicely into Patrick Smith's story today...
...about focusing too much on passengers and not enough on law enforcement.
What has King done as chair of the Homeland Security Committee? He jumped up and down about the Dubai deal because it was politically advantageous, but he has done NOTHING about making our ports, chemical plants, nuclear plants and airports more secure. He supports Bush's funding cuts for security programs. He supports Bush's willingness to let corporations do NOTHING to beef up their security, even if they have vulnerable facilities that could do humongous damage if attacked. He has been a total lappoodle to the Repugs' special interests. He has done NOTHING to make the Department of Homeland Security an efficient, workable agency. He makes a stink when it is in his political interests, and does nothing otherwise. Now he's throwing some red meat to his xenophobic suburban constituents.
This guy is a pathetic excuse for a security overseer.
On another note, ever wonder why King, this extreme conservative, voted against impeaching Clinton--not coincidentally, right after Larry Flynt said he would "out" philandering and harrassing congressman who voted FOR impeachment? It is literally the ONLY time King has ever bucked the party leadership. There is a major story there (I know this for a fact, as I know several of his ex-staffers) if someone wants to pursue it.
