An army of one
I suspect he's right about one thing, if the Repubs stay in power it will last a very long time.
-
Wait a minute ... what happened to the last throes?
Keep the Republicans in charge? Are they in charge? In charge of what, perpetual chaos?

Cheney in August 2002
" Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction..."
"..Regime change in Iraq would bring about a number of benefits to the region. When the gravest of threats are eliminated, the freedom-loving peoples of the region will have a chance to promote the values that can bring lasting peace. As for the reaction of the Arab "street," the Middle East expert Professor Fouad Ajami predicts that after liberation, the streets in Basra and Baghdad are "sure to erupt in joy in the same way the throngs in Kabul greeted the Americans." Extremists in the region would have to rethink their strategy of Jihad. Moderates throughout the region would take heart. And our ability to advance the Israeli-Palestinian peace process would be enhanced, just as it was following the liberation of Kuwait in 1991..."
"... In other times the world saw how the United States defeated fierce enemies, then helped rebuild their countries, forming strong bonds between our peoples and our governments. Today in Afghanistan, the world is seeing that America acts not to conquer but to liberate, and remains in friendship to help the people build a future of stability, self-determination, and peace.
We would act in that same spirit after a regime change in Iraq. With our help, a liberated Iraq can be a great nation once again. Iraq is rich in natural resources and human talent, and has unlimited potential for a peaceful, prosperous future. Our goal would be an Iraq that has territorial integrity, a government that is democratic and pluralistic, a nation where the human rights of every ethnic and religious group are recognized and protected. In that troubled land all who seek justice, and dignity, and the chance to live their own lives, can know they have a friend and ally in the United States of America..."
________
Yeah, things are going along exactly as he envisioned. Piece of cake. The entire region from Afghanistan to Gaza is now flowering in freedom, democracy, and peace. Jeesh, with all that you've accomplished thus far, we most certainly must go on to see what great new stuff you'll do in the next few years with retention of congressional control.
Dude is utterly blind to his own megalomaniacal incompetence. Go [bleep] yourself, Mr. Cheney.

The "Security" Thing
The GOP's use of security as an issue of strength is soooo last year. Democrats need to grab that security issue by the neck and shake it to pieces in front of the public. Security? How secure was New Orleans in the runup to and after Hurricane Katrina? How secure is Iraq now compared to its status before the GOP took power? How secure is the Middle East under the GOP? And how secure are America's most populous cities since several were attacked in 2001, but had their security funding slashed in 2006?
Secure?
Since when?
We were a hell of a lot more secure in 2000 than we are now. Go back to START. Reelect the people who gave America nearly a decade of peace and prosperity. Get rid of the people who have made a mishmosh of everything from terror warnings to hurricane warnings to warnings from America's top generals.
Let's clear the slate and start over again. Reelect competence in 2006.
-
Not "Go back to START"...
... How about "Go to Jail, Go Directly to Jail, Do Not Pass 'GO', Do Not Collect $200"?
Oh, would that it were so...
*sigh*
-
Can you blame him?
He has a vested interest in war. After the Middle East is blown to smithareens, Old Dick stands to make a fortune from Haliburton re-building contracts. He's already beginning to rake it in from Hurricane Katrina and the devastated Gulf Coast Region.
What would you call someone who indirectly kills people and then profits from it?
-
For those who've been paying attention
The course Five Deferment Dick wants to stay, is the course for global war. It is not that he is itching for theApacolypse like President Bush and his fundamentalist base, but that he is really addicted to power and wealth, and sees, like any arms and resource merchant a great chance to benefit from chaos.
Look very closely at what Dick has been doing since we invaded Iraq. Aside from advising torturing prisoners and destroying the reputations of CIA workers involved in monitoring WMDs, Cheney, when he's crawled out of his bunker has been stirring up enmity with Russia and China while touting the great democratic heroes of such totalitarian bastions as Khazakstan. I think many things of Dead-eye Dick, but I don't think he speaks just to hear himself talk. When he speaks it is to accomplish a goal, and when he laid into Russia while speaking in the Baltic Republics he had an agenda. Piss off Russia.
Yes, everything is going to plan to Dick Cheney, just as, in August, 1914, when everything went according to plan for Germany, which had no intention of restraining the Hapsburgs, and England, which had no intention of restraining Russia. It is all about power and wealth and the unrestrained greed and the grand ideas of the smallest of minds, a fight for control of the world, as if it were so much sand in the playbox and those who fight and die for their delusions, so many plastic soldiers.

fantasies
Dick Cheney has his obviously and I have my own. Mine is one where Bush and Co., including the dark one, are brought to trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
It happened to Pinochet, perhaps it could happen to Dick and GWB. Oh, what a dream to see them brought to the Hague.

incredible ignorance
tregibbs, your ignorance is astounding. Cheney divested himself of all business relationships with Halliburton, including stocks and options, during the 2000 campaign. He can't make a penny on any of this.
By the way, Cheney gave about 3/5's of his income to charity last year--millions of dollars. How much did you give, tregibbs? Not in absolute amount, but in percentage of your income. Until you can match 3/5's, shut up.
