  • Rhinoceros

I just finished teaching a section of my "Modern Drama as Literature" class on Ionesco's play Rhinoceros. I drew an analogy between the rhinos in the play, who stomp and snort without restraint in their attacks on humanism, and the current administration and its apologists. If there was any doubt that the analogy was apt, Coulter's behavior makes it crystal clear that she is a rhino.

The most tragic part of Ionesco's play is that good people, in struggling to appear "fair minded," make apologies for the rhinos and do nothing to confront them or control them. The result? At the end of the play there is only one human being left.

  • Coulter again?

    Stop talking about Ann Coulter.

No amount of righteous indignation at her antics justifies talking about her. She is a publicity whore who makes outrageous comments to keep her name in the news and her books selling. The solution is not to point fingers and bask in the schadenfreude of her possible felony, her voting problems, or whatever the subject du jour is; the solution is to stop talking about her.

Ann Coulter is the living embodiment of the old question: How long have you been beating your wife? To respond to the question (even an emphatic denunciation of the quesiton) is to validate the question and the questioner. The proper response is the zen response of "Mu" which translates roughly as "unask the question."

Please stop reporting on Ann Coulter.

  • A.C. is a felon, or should be...

I just read about this over in 'fix' section and basically asked the same thing! Why don't they turn over the e-mail to the police or FBI or Secret Service or whomever handles mailing poison through the mail and have 'em kick in her door! Do a little looking around; make sure our A.C. isn't up to something she shouldn't be. There are, supposedly, consequences for making public threats, and taking credit for possible terrorist actions. Wouldn't it be nice (cue Beach Boys) to see A.C. writing her column from inside a prison cell, or in a home for the incurably insane? (…Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray, it might come truuuuuue…)

  • This ought to be analogous to "zero tolerance" airport security

There is zero tolerance for making even "joking" references to bombs or other weapons in airports or on board airplanes -- seems logical to me a similar standard should apply to terror threats as well! How can we expect our law enforcement officers and anti-terrorism authorities to sort out real threats or confessions from the "humorous" ones?

Sounds like dear Ann is almost daring someone to take her lame attempts at humor seriously -- why not? She isn't funny, as we all know -- let's assume she isn't really trying to be. Maybe she really DOES want someone to poison Justice John Paul Stevens, or destroy the NY Times. Let's take her COMPLETELY seriously, and let the chips fall where they may.

Couldn't happen to a nicer hag.

  • Fight Fire With FIre

This kind of crap just makes me sick. If it was Al Franken (or any other Progressive), MSM would be on it like flies on sh*t (analogy intended). I think it's time we fight back, and pressure the FBI to investigate, and throw that bitch behind bars where she belongs.

  • Give me a break!

I totally agree with Swan, who says that A.C. is a media whore and we shouldn't pay her anymore attention, because this is exactly what she wants.

It is definately a stretch for War Room to take her "admission" seriously- she is obviously being her usual smart-ass self. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone threats, even in jest. Ann Coulter is a conceited, opinionated bitch, and not to mention downright wrong and completely offensive all of the time, but there is that little problem of freedom of speech that we all fight so hard to keep around... She's got the freedom to say whatever she wants, and it's messed up for anyone to suggest she should be jailed for it.

Gosh, I never thought I would be defending Ann Coulter against Salon...

If we are looking for a way to get rid of this lady we should be laughing at her idiocy instead of raging against her- we should be reducing her to an insignificant blabber mouth- that's the stuff that spreads like wildfire (...see the 2004 Bush campaign's handling of Howard Dean). She wants to piss people off, and giving into it just gives her and people who think like her more power.

  • Republicans are soft on crime when it's theirs

Bob Novak is a traitor, by his own admission.

Ann Coulter is a terrorist, by her own admission.

George W. Bush broke US law and could be tried as an international war criminal, says the conservative-dominated Supreme Court.

And many more. But all these people don't think they're breaking the law. They're proud to be criminals, in the Dirty Harry, "You can't handle the truth", "you're either with us or with the terrorists" sort of way.

Pathetic. Sad. Dangerous. The morals of this country are going to hell because the sphincter conservatives don't think laws or ethics apply to them. Would you really want any of these people to be a role model for your son or daughter?

  • I used to agree with "Swan"...

...that we should simply ignore dear Ann, because she obviously lives on the pure oxygen of HAVING ATTENTION PAID TO HER. As a result, even though I often did react to her nearly irresistible provocations, I really felt NO response would probably be wiser.

I don't think that's the best path any longer. Up to now, Ann has known full well what sort of reaction her comments and actions will cause -- what we need to do is choose to react DIFFERENTLY. DON'T do what she expects -- in other words, don't do what almost all of us have done up to now. That, of course, is to throw words back at her.

There appear to be all sorts of legal ways to entangle the hag -- from her lying about voter registration in Florida, to her evident plagiarism, to this latest terror threat (there have been several!). Someone with legal standing, or in a prosecutor's office, should just DO it. Sue her, indict her, HOLD HER ACCOUNTABLE.
