Re: Polk v. Bush

I guess it's 48'40 or fight then.

Trust

So Bush trusts Rove, but how many others trust neither of them?

As long as Bush trusts him that's all that matters...

President Polk said: "I am heartily rejoiced that my term is so near its close. I will soon cease to be a servant and will become a sovereign."

Bush says: "It's good to be King!" while president and will rejoice after that he is one of the elite untouched by the devastation his policies and actions have had on our country.

They are polar opposites. Polk successfully waged a war. Bush has not. Polk achieved his stated goals. Bush has not. Polk exhausted himself performing his office (likely resulting in his death only three months after leaving office). Bush has not.

Another Polk quote..."Public opinion: May it always perform one of its appropriate offices, by teaching the public functionaries of the State and of the Federal Government, that neither shall assume the exercise of powers entrusted by the Constitution to the other."

Bush ignores public opinion and does what he wants.

that's not the real question

I'm sure the president does trust Karl Rove. Anything the Deputy chief of Staff did that was part of the Plame outing investigation was simply part of an attempt to protect the President and the administration's false rationale (lies) about WMD in Iraq.

The real question is should we trust Karl Rove or the man who still trusts him?

Bush lied too.

Apparently, Bush lied (once again) when he stated publicaly that he would fire anyone in his administartion who leaked the name of a CIA Op. Where is the Wash Press Corp on this one? Huddled behind a White House provided free lunch? It has been clearly proven that Rove did in fact leak Plame's name to two journalists. Now Bush says he places trust to a proven liar and law breaker. Hmmm...same old same old for the neocons. Perhaps Coulter can be asked to go on the circuit and give a raving and angry justification why Bush won't fire Rove.

He Said He'd Fire Anyone Who Was Involved

Why didn't the reporter ask the president about his pledge to fire anyone who was involved?

On September 29, 2003, Scott McLellan said, "if anyone in this administration was involved in it, they would no longer be in this administration." On June 10, 2004, President Bush was asked if he stood by his pledge to fire anyone found to have leaked Valerie Plame's name, and he said he did. Since Karl Rove was involved, and did leak Ms. Plame's name, President Bush should fire him.

not the point, Mr. President

It's easy for Bush to trust Rove because he gets briefed in advance about the lies he tells and why they are being told (and maybe even what the truth really is but I'm not sure about that). The problem is the other 300 million of us have no reason to trust Rove and plenty not to trust him, especially with that faulty memory and everything.

Well, duh

Don't you get it? The advantage of having God on your team is, you get to define what is "right". And the advantage of having Alito, Gonzales, and other Acolytes of the Unitary Executive on your team is that, via "signing statements", you get to decide what is "legal". It's win-win for everyone...

... except the American people, who get to watch their once-great Republic sink into the muck of history.
