Truthout reporter stands by the "Rove indicted" story

In a radio interview, Jason Leopold says he won't say otherwise until he hears it from Patrick Fitzgerald.

The letters thread is now closed.

Denial

Meanwhile, Leopold said he's working tirelessly to get to the bottom of whatever it is that happened.

Of course. And O.J. will find Nicole's killer any day now.

Seriously, if Jason Leopold isn't simply trying desperately to cover up his gross incompetence as a reporter, he's in deep denial.

Waiting for Fitzgerald to announce?

Since Fitzgerald has indicated he only plans to make positive announcemens about charges filed, and not negative announcements about who he doesn't indict, it's going to be a long wait.

There should be some additional resolution provided by truthout beyond the phony 'when Fitzgerald says he's not indicting' trigger.

Correction

Actually, while it's Fitzgerald's practice not to make any negative announcements, we can expect an anouncement when his investigation has ended - and that implies no further indictments.

So, truthout can be asked to confirm that when Fitzgerald's investigation ends, they'll reveal their sources that Rove was indicted.

Pardon possible?

Is it just possible that the White House has informed Fitzgerald that any charges brought would automatically be pardoned?

What is the use ?

Seriously, do you think any of this registers with the public at large ? "Plamegate" is a scandal, but most Americans out there could not care less. A lot of people don't even know what the big deal is (or what it stands for ).

We have this mentality that if only the public would see how corrupt/incompetent/venal the administration is, all will change. I am sorry to tell you that the people who voted for Bush in 2004 will not vote for Hillary in 2008 regardless of the current disaster(s). Let's come up with a set of candidates Americans can warm up to (I have tremendous respect for Hillary, but she *will* lose) and let's talk about the real issues.

Dear Salon writers and editors, "Plamegate" is not a real issue to most people, so don't waste your efforts on covering it.

Whether People Care (Understand?) is our Barometer

People had very little understanding or interest in what Ken Lay did with Enron. Because of that, should the problem be ignored?

I thought this story was a perfect llustration about how the republicans see things in terms of win/lose as opposed to right/wrong. They've made up their minds they're going to stand behind these incompetent criminals, and backing down now (or ever) will be a sign of weakness. Principles be damned.

Perhaps this isn't just a republican short-coming.

It does matter.

Mr. Goodwin, you make some very good points. I think you are correct that most people do not understand Plamegate and don't care about it.

And most people also don't know how dangerous Karl Rove is to the electorial system. One of the reasons I am very disappointed that Rove is not yet to be indicted is because we have an election soon. This man is a master of election manipulation.

So even if people don't know much about Plamegate it would have been great to have his mind focused on a trial rather than focused on how to elect more corrupt Republicans.

Since I suspect that many of his tactics may be illegal, perhaps Rove will eventually be indicted and tried for his crimes.

A girl can hope, anyway.

Focus On The Big Picture

Is it not amazing that formerly vocal and independent Democrats are now timid supporters of DerBu$hler's Fourth Reich?

Has no thought been given as to why that is?

Dave Lindorff did a great job of reminding us that billions-that's with a "B"-of dollars supposedly spent on Operation Iraqi Liberation are unaccounted for. See Dave's article at http://thiscantbehappening.net/2006.06.01_arch.html#1149529526678.

That buys alot of information. Alot of power. Alot of ability to intimidate and blackmail. J. Edgar Hoover at least had some standards and morals when he engaged in such activities. The same cannot be said of the current regime.

Rather than kick Jason Leopold while he seeks to uncover what has happened, the rest of the non-corporate media *should* be joining that effort. All signals were that Rove was going to be Indicted. Something happened. Get over your professional rivalry, and get back to work.

This story is dead as a cod...

Please, make it go away, because it really doesn't matter. This 'controversy' has been stinking up the War Room for weeks now.

Who, save for a few sad-sack, goggle-eyed, over-caffeinated blogossips could possibly give a shit about what Jason Leopold has to say for himself these days. Who?

Wednesday, June 14, 2006 03:26 AM

Spare us

Really appreciate the War Room but getting tired of reading about the internecine squabbles in the the blogger community. Who cares!

Wednesday, June 14, 2006 05:19 AM

Please

Enough with that arse Rove already.

Way more than enough with your pissing contest with TruthOut!

There are other things going on in the world, not that you've noticed.

PS: I am a long-time War Room reader and usually a fan, but really...

Hacks in Flak Jackets.

Or should it be flack jackets? Isn't flack a pormanteau word combining hack and flak? They SHOULD be scared shitless. Priceless.

Rove not indicted

It's really quite simple. Someone got to Fitzpatrik and told him to stop this investigation. Where are the Judge Sirica's and John Dean's of this age? In the wilderness.

This went much higher than Karl Rove and Fitzpatrik knows this. It all stops at Cheney. Everyone continues to be intimidated. There is no longer any oversight. There is no independence. Cheney directs everything.

Rove disinfo

I always figured that the Truthout story was planted by Rove's camp as disinfo -- a 15 hr meeting is ridiculous on its face; and until I hear from Fitz, I'm assuming that Rove being set free is also disinfo.
