Ann Coulter, a profile in courage

The conservative columnist refuses to apologize for her attacks on the 9/11 widows.

The letters thread is now closed.

She'll go away if we stop talking about her . . .

What Ms. Coulter wants more than anything else in the world is publicity. As a result, she says and writes the most ridiculous and unkind and hateful nuggets she can come up with. Why, why does she do this? Because she knows that the press, the bloggers, etc. will pay attention to her. If we could all agree that she is not worthy of our attention, she would go away.

Respond

Dems should go to all her book signings, not buy anything and just take up space in line. When you get to her, you can tell her what you think, or perhaps ask "how much" and "so where do you keep the bed?". Really, anything you choose to say to her would be far more polite than what she has to say.

No More

Let's stop writing about Ann Coulter. If she spews her venom and nobody comments about it, she will lose her momentum and strange éclat.

I know we can't stop Today from booking her, but we can certainly not blog or in any other way pay attention to her. Let's pretend she doesn't exist, since everything she's doing is a sociopathic cry for attention. We only feed her pathology when we respond.

An Understandable Rant by Ann

Let's face it - Ann has a RIGHT to be mad at these 9/11 widows and all the other victims. After all - what is Ann's stock-in-trade? Personal slurs of political opponents. But here are all these victims who she can't slur without even some of her allies rebuking her. Is it any wonder that she's become unhinged? If she can't crap all over people's good names, she really doesn't have any more tricks in her bag. So it makes perfectly good sense that she's kicked through that taboo with gusto. Not remarkable, of course, is how many TownHallers and Opinion"Journalists" are willing to follow her in her march to the sewer.

Who Were We Talking About?

Hey, how 'bout those Cubbies this year, eh?

World Cup starts up tomorrow. Costa Rica could pull off an upset of the Germans. 'Least that's what I hear.

Nope, just gonna chill, do a little barbeque, maybe weed the garden. You know, the kids are supposed to but they do a crappy job of it.

No, I haven't seen it. Is it worth going to or should I just wait and Netflix it? That good? Really? Well, maybe we will go see it. Would you mind watching the kids if we decide to go see it tomorrow night?

A.C. Is

as un-American as they come. It (A.C. is not worthy of name nor gender) should be ostracized and sent to a place where like-minded individuals share her views, if such a place even exists. It certainly isn't Palm Beach Island or South Florida in general, too many left leaning northern transplants there to tolerate someone who contributes nothing but hateful venom to meaningful public discourse and American society as a whole. Maybe her next stunt will be to side with the few who deny the Holocaust ever happened, I wouldn't put it past it (her).

harpie queen speaks

It is wishful thinking that this harpie will go away.

She is a favorite guest/participant of TV shows, and will actually say things like:

"...by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies?"

That someone this vile can get air time, and publish and sell books says a lot more about the current culture than anything else does. We can ignore her all we like, but we are not mainstream people. We have zero influence. She is not going away because she is a shrill ratings getter, money maker and Bush is still the president.

AC

John Patrick Shanley's great play, Doubt, is about all this AC type of sexually frustrated idiocy and deceit, self and otherwise.

Just another cog in the outrage machine

Ann Coulter is beloved by the conservative machine because she can be counted on to create outrage whenever she opens her trap. And outrage is exactly what they want. They want her to reach into the little reptile brains of the dittoheads and the bigots and whip them into a self-righteous frenzy. They want ordinary, decent Americans to be utterly pissed off and disgusted at her vileness. It's all about generating outrage, 24-7, and the topic doesn't really matter.

When people are outraged, they aren't thinking straight. They can be more easily manipulated into doing what you want, or they can be distracted from noticing what's really important. And outrage itself can be like a drug. It can be so cathartic that eventually it doesn't matter what you're outraged about.

Fascist Dominatrix Party Doll Finally Discovers The Boundaries

Our bulimic wannabee gadfly was finally found there are lines which should not be crossed. After impugning the bravery of Max Cleland and responding to Hillary's toungue lashing with yet another ad hominiem attack on our former peace and prosperity presidemt, she further digs her trench of shame yet deeper with her latest tantrum.

It's really amusing to watch her flail about in greater desperation while she continues to trot out her usual bag of trick to no avail. Ann darlin', you finally put your spike heels in the cowflop of life this time, and they ain't coming clean anytime soon.

Enjoy.

profile in sociopathy

At least, I think that's the correct term for someone completely unreachable through shame or appeals to decency--obviously it's not "courage."

I disagree with the repeated objections that we need to stop talking about Coulter. It's magical thinking to suppose that this will make her go away. She's not a mass delusion conjured up by liberals. She won't be banished like the spirit of Jack the Ripper in that old Star Trek episode, much as I'd enjoy seeing it.

Coulter is a living, breathing, extremely hateful human being, and she spreads her hate through numerous media outlets that let her get away with it. They present Coulter as credible whether we like it or not. If we shut up about Coulter, that only adds to her credibility. Every time Coulter appears, somebody ought to be asking her enablers why they give air time to a sociopath. That's not censorship; it's a consumer complaint: I paid to see news; why am I seeing this bile-spewing lunatic?
