  • Even true, it's an embarrassing thing to have said....

It would also be good not to proclaim "no one died at Abu Ghraib" as some sort of a badge of honor. Who knows how many people were abused, degraded, and otherwise deprived of basic human rights in any number of ways.... but since "no one died" it's not that big a deal? Even if it were true, it would still be a reprehensible remark. Are we really trying to gauge the severity of atrocities by a comparison of the body counts?

  • no one died

No one died during most of the rapes in this country, nor in most of the child molestation, nor in most of the assaults and robberies.

No one died when Lay and Skilling decided to get theirs.

No one died as a result of Abramoff's corruption.

There are lots of cases in which no one died - that is now the criteria for concern?

    Sheesh!

No one died - except maybe the reputation of the Unitied States.

  • More un truths

In today's press briefing you have a Q&A where this mis-information is repeated...

Q Tony, on his joint news availability with the British Prime Minister, the President said he regretted Abu Ghraib, and, yet, no one was killed at Abu Ghraib. And we are on the edge here, apparently, of seeing the worst massacre since My Lai back during the Vietnam years. What kind of damage control are you and the President getting ready to put forward?

I don't know which reporter asked the question.

  • The oldest trick in the book

Repeat a lie often enough and with authority and people will begin to believe it.

  • Wasn't there another

Wasn't there someone who died that the US troops were trying to hide? I just remember something about a freezer. Help me someone?

  • Yep

    You are correct.

Then they stuck an IV in him to make it look like he was getting care.

    Fellow died during, ahem, questioning.

Or did he just fall down the stairs? Oh. No - that was what happened to prisoners under aparteid south africa. Getting hard to keep things straight.

  • Someone else said it too...

This is the most unhelpful post ever, but...

Late last week or over the weekend, someone else-- not Snow, I managed to escape him until today, and not MSNBC which I never watch-- said the same thing about no one dying at Abu Ghraib. I want to say it was someone important-- the Pres? Hmmm. My memory is hazy, I was running around doing housework, but I remember being shocked at the outright lie that no one called him on. Oh, this is going to drive me crazy...

Did anyone else hear something like that? Probably on CNN, which I listen to endlessly.

  • No one died

Hello Doctor Goebbels, he also was a perfunctuary liar, and he originated the sentence: If you repeat a lie loud end often enough, people will believe it. Nuff said, welcome George and Tony.

  • Thanks Katharine

I remembered this immediately upon reading the "no one died" remark. Thanks for the post.
