It's about competence, among other things

If the Bush administration is so concerned about Americans' privacy, why did the VA wait two weeks to report data theft?

The letters thread is now closed.

"Its the competence, stupid"

Oooh, ooh, i love it. Could we take the title of this little blurb and spin it into a play of Clinton's famous campaign motto when he was running agains bush1 "Its the economy, stupid"

I don't get it.

Why are people still believing anything that George Bush says?? I judge him by the actions he has and has not taken over the past 5 years... i do not listen to the watered down talking points he parrots.

Theft of Data?

Anyone who believes that the theft of VA patient data was a random occurence still believes that Bush won in Florida. You don't need to work on the CSI series to put things together. An "analyst" takes home all the veteran records against Agency policy. The weekend he does, there is a burglary at the home and all the records are "stolen." The theft doesn't get reported for a couple of weeks, depriving veterans of a chance to nip possible identifity theft in the bud. And it's all coincidental. Yeah, right. And Dick Cheney wasn't drinking when he shotgunned his buddy. Everything in this government can be bought. Abrahamoff and DeLay (and Cunningham and Jefferson) taught us that.

Perhaps hoping the thief was after a laptop

and not the information on it?

Locally we had a similiar theft. 40,000 or so medical records on a laptop at home(shouldn't have been) that was stolen. It took a month for the story to be revealed. One of the reasons given was the hope the thief would wipe the hard drive and fence the laptop before finding out what was on the drive. As far as I know everyone on the list has been notified and no one has reported problems. Dodged a bullet hopefully.

I understand the thinking but it assumes absolute ignorance on the part of the thief about computers.

Dangerous assumption to make.

I have no idea if that is even the case in regard to the VA documents.
