HER role?
Excuse me? Senator Clinton had a role in her husband's lapse in judgment? WHAT?
And by the way, you can forget about Belinda Stronach. She's nowhere near as intelligent, savvy, or principled as Senator Clinton. And I'm not even a big fan of the senator's, though I respect her intellect and strength of character.
This is the kind of "political" coverage that makes me cringe. Reporters wouldn't dream of hounding Laura Bush about the traffic accident in her past -- in which someone close to her died -- or press her to explain the matters about which she disagrees with her husband. Instead, this story focuses on a family matter in which no one died.
This kind of crap must be easier than asking tough questions of today's leaders, who are in the business of trampling the Constitution and sending soldiers to die for no good reason.
But cheap shots make bad journalism.

The "Dread" Report
If you've ever wondered why the Drudge Report gained credibility, the answer is staring at you in the mirror. It is you! Quit making Matt Drudge the credible journalist that he ain't, please! Eeach time you report that he's gotten something wrong, gives the "dread report" credence because YOU must be reading to know that the reporting is plain B.S. And, in your quest to let people know, oh so subtly, that the reporting is B.S., it comes across that it must be the real deal because Salon folks are reading it. I am hurt!

Once again...
Well. If I had to guess, I'd say that the NYT's editorial decisions are now being made by... Maureen Dowd. After all, for years Ms. Dowd has had an unhealthy, sexualized obesession with Bill Clinton, as well as a pronounced dislike of his wife's reaction to his affairs. She's been critical of their marriage for over a decade. It was a sham, she implied, week after week in her columns. What couple could have a marriage like the Clintons? Only European leaders, like Mitterand or Kohl, could arrive at such an accomodation. You'd almost think, from Dowd's reactions, that she herself had been spurned by that cad, Clinton.
But perhaps I'm giving Dowd too much credit. Maybe this kind of story is evidence of something rotten at the the NYT's Denmark on Broadway. Could it be evidence of an unbalanced journalistic preferences at the NYT? Let me see. Jodi "the caged hamster" Wilgoren's coverage of Kerry was impeccable. Adam Nagourney's coverage of Bush has been flawless. And Elizabeth "who's Colbert?" Bumiller could never be accused of bias. Of course, there was Judith "the turning aspen" Miller's slight deviation from the standards of ethical and solid journalism. But that was an aberration. (Except for that other guy, Jayson Blair, who just made things up, too.)
No, the Times is in fine shape. Its journalism up to now has been a paragon of integrity and professionalism. So this article must be the result of Dowd pulling the stings. After all, she has been perfecting her persona as the "charm kitten" of the Gray Lady. I can only guess how much perfume-scented influence this Salome of the newsroom used to overwhelm the solid judgment of old Bill Keller and young Mr. Sulzberger to get the Clinton's marriage onto the front burner.
I'll bet she's behind the gratuitously inept redesign of the NYT website, too.

The NYT is nothing more than...
The NYT is really nothing more than MSM with all of it's/ their faults. No wonder their all losing readership, as well they should and it will only continue. The MSM is being destroyed by the Bushies who seek to control it because they are afraid of it. They also seek to diminish education, especially college level, because they are afraid of it because it teaches people to THINK and become informed. The MSM is supposed to inform and give people ideas to think about and the Bushies and neocons are afraid of any daylight shining on their secret government.
But the MSM is also doing away with itself, ie. shooting itself in the foot in so many ways.
The NYT is trying to be all things to all people so they do their anti Dem stuff to appease the Repub readers and do their anti Bush/Repub stuff to appease and retain their Dem readers. They are all wimps who are afraid to stand up for the truth and the facts so they pander.
When the NYT began charging for their online service I chose to for-go them because they were just becoming too MSM. True they are not nearly as bad as Fox but as bad as Fox is just look at their high ratings and therefore all the money they are making. Fox makes the most money and gives nothing but heavily biased opinion rather than real investigative journalism and true fact based reports. Fox just spews out Rupert Murdoch and the NYT just spews out Sulzberger.
I will not go back to the NYT until they straighten themselves out ie. figure out what they are doing. The NYT has committed some really egregious journalistic crimes/ faux pas, to say the least.
The worst thing about the MSM is that America needs great journalism now more then ever and all they are doing is destroying journalism. But thats what the Bushies like so at least they are happy. Meanwhile the rest of us must put up with crap/ bullshit from the MSM as well as the Bushies.
As someone famous once said, 'Democracy is a fragile form of government'.
And what I say is that our democracy is being ruthlessly set upon by the Bushies, neocons, corporatists and right wing religious radicals. While at the same time it is being undermined by the MSM, Fox and the NYT.

Bill's Belinda
For those who have other than merely prurient interests, and who would like to see photos of Belinda with her clothes on, there are more than 100 casual, unposed shots of the Canadian "politician" at: http://www.belinda.ca/photogallery.asp?print=true
Please skip the set taken at the Aurora high school graduation in the interests of expediency as it features mostly pictures of other people's children.
Lest Salon readers think Ms. Stronach is just a wealthy lightweight, a north-of-the-border version of heiress Kathy Harris, but without the $2,800 dinners with lobbyists, go straighaway to this hard-hitting interview: http://www.thehammer.ca/content/2004/0129/belinda_stronach.html
