"A fiscal day of reckoning"

The job of a president is to solve problems now. Except when it isn't.

Political Timing

Expanding on what "simon" said:

I believe the timing recognizes the possibility that the Dems may likely win the Congress and/or the presidency between now and 2008. This means that anyone who is serious will have to confront the deficit -- and probably propose what can be called "tax hikes" before the 2011 debacle. If this happens, the GOP plans to use this against the Dems (president and/or congress) in the 2010 mid-term elections to grab power again.

Of course, if they retain control of everything, then they can keep extending these cuts until the entire economy collapses around our ears.

dubya,the Repub/neocons & retirement

I most certainly hope Bush retires at the end of his term, returns to Texas(they can have him) and is never heard from again. I hope he disappears into obsecurity.

My fear is that he,Cheney,Rummy,Rice,Gonzales and the other Repub/neocons will do no such thing, he and they may/will remain a millstone around the neck of America and will just continue dragging us down in some way that I cannot yet forsee.

Mat God help America and protect it from the scourge that is Bush and the neocons.

Notice the timing

Who says Republicans aren't motivated to stay in power? Look again at the date the tax expires: Jan 11, 2011. The same year that there will be an election. Coincidence?

The W in Retirement

W will never be found in Crawford Texas after retirement. The "ranch" will be sold at a handsome profit to oil industry patrons. W and Laura will be found in Dallas, Houston or on the east coast. Can you imagine the twins making the club scene around Crawford and Waco?
