True mark of a dictator

According to Bush and the Republican Party whatever W says is legal, whatever he does is legal, whatever he declares is law; he cannot break the law because he is above the law

or better he IS the law.

Bottom line, is that not the template of a Dictator? Obviously the talk of "following the rule of law" and "defending the Constitution" --of which he does neither-- is mere lip service, and the talking points are that Bush needs not ...because he is the Supreme Being, I suppose.

And what about his own daddy, a former head of the CIA, saying (if I remember correctly) that leaking a covert CIA operative was one of the worst forms of treason?

What has Poppy said about this entire drama since sonny's cronies are so deeply implicated, and now of course Junior himself?

--was that sentiment for everyone except his son?

How many more crimes must this administration commit before the American people demand honor, honesty and transparency in the highest offices? What craziness has people convinced that lying about a BJ so the wife won't find out is infinitely worst than lying to the American people (and indeed the entire world) to preemptively invade a country who had done nothing to us, causing thousands of our soldiers to die and tens-to-hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's deaths? Or creating secret police, secret prisons, advocating torture and breaking our long-standing commitment to the Geneva Conventions? Or the nepotism and rampant cronyism whose almost comical ineptness negatively impacts every single American, through our taxes if not directly? Or no-bid contracts for certain well-connected paisans? Secret meetings where heads of energy corporations dictate the governmental course, of which corps then post incredible profits while the American people pay through the nose. Selling off our federal lands --property of the American people-- to yet more business buddies to exploit? The push to privatize Social Security at the people's cost, to the benefit of Wall Street. Tax cuts for the ultra-rich which the lower and middle class, and their children, pay for.

Just name any area: Environment, Medicare, Taxes, National Debt, care of the elderly and sick, Election Fraud, American jobs outsourced, the Military-Industrial Complex, more poor in America and lower standards of living for many, Veterans benefits cut at the same time those doing the cutting are exhorting us to "support the troops", College aid cut, recession, repression, Racism, Lying, Cheating, Stealing, Extortion, possibly Murder

...I could go on & on but my fingers are tired.

Real family values.

Perhaps the crown they had waiting for Bush when he "won" the last election should have caused a bit more alarm.

This administration's actions make Clinton look like a bona fide Saint. Oh, but he got a blow job... well that de facto cancels everything out; therefore Bush is (according to the pundits) de jure whiter than snow. It's simple common sense from simpletons, much like Intelligent Design: '*I* myself couldn't create such a complex world, therefore neither can the whole of nature'.

Please pass the failure fries...

Impeachment

Bushit's crimes are far worse than Nixon's. The unholy war in Iraq was knowingly and despicably provoked with intelligence the cadre knew to be false. the PNAC fascists planned this for years. Bush and Dick carried the water. Scooter and Colon and Cunnilingus Ricearoni and Reichsmarsall Rumsfeld did their part like good Nazis. Tens of thousands of people have died as a direct result of this calumny. The flavor of the month for the next two years is Impeach-mint. Yummy.

Okay, once again...

Why aren't there at least some people on the Democratic side of the aisle banding around the "I" word for both Cheney and Shrub?

From the Iraq War to the Plame case Bush Jr. has committed a crime against the United States as great as Nixon's crimes in Watergate and in excess of anything Bill Clinton did in Office.

Yet no one is really talking about "Impeachment" on the Democratic side? Or have we finally landed in a Bizarro world where a blowjob is a far worse crime the lying to the American people and sending over a thousand young men to die.

re: apples & oranges, what am I missing

The way this revelation ties into the leaking of Plame's identity is that it shows there was a coordinated effort to discredit Wilson's claims amongst the highest leaders in government, and also that they were willing to leak classified information anonymously to that effect.

This new information is both supporting evidence to the claim that Plame's name was leaked to discredit/in retribution for Wilson's claims (which is a no-brainer, but it still has to be supported by evidence in court), and it also shows that the name leak itself was part of a larger scheme. More indictments, please!

Mr. Knutson

If he had Bush's authority, THAT'S his get out of jail free card. As I understand the law, the CIC has the power to declassify information. If that extends to publicizing the identity of a CIA operative, then Libby walks. That's why it's imperative for Fitzgerald to get Bush under oath.

Re: the Vice President

Jimmycarl--it's not a matter of Bush firing Cheney; it's a matter of political cover for Cheney to leave in a way that makes Bush look strong and provides an opportunity for somebody who has aspirations in 2008 to take the office of the Vice Presidency.

Cheney would be taking one for the team in this scenario.

Obstruction of Justice

If they leaked the name, then let the justice system spin its wheels for months seeking the perpetrator, while denying knowledge of who did it, I'd say, "Yes, that is obstruction of justice!"

Not like they said, "Yeah, we released the info, we can, we de-classified it, nothing to see here, move along..."

ITMFA!

Your links aren't working.

For me, anyway. I would like to read that pdf doc from Fitzgerald, but I can't locate it. He usually puts his proceedings up on his web site, and I can't find it there, either. The link to the Sun story isn't working, either. Could you look into that, please?

Thanks.

High Crimes and Misdemeaners

First, why do people think the President can just fire the Vice-President? Cheney was elected; Bush doesn't have the authority to fire him.

Second, just because Bush may not technically have broke a law, that doesn't avoid being forced out of office. High crimes and misdemeanors are defined by the House and Senate as they go along. Ask Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton or Richard Nixon.

Today's lunchtime fantasy: We live in a country with an actual opposition party. They believe in the oath they took to the Constitution.

Now say it out loud: "impeachment". It feels good doesn't it? Now say it to your congressman.
