  • Sugarland without DeLay?

    How sweet it is!

  • Goodbye, Tom, We'll Never Miss You

Retirement is only step one, Tommy Boy. Prison awaits.

  • Mere Coincidence?

I guess it's a total coincidence that DeLay steps down a week after his former aide pleads guilty to various felony counts. This guy must have had knowledge of some serious dirt on his boss that he was going to sing about to the Feds. At least the Hammer didn't trot out that cliched line about wanting to spend more time with his family. Instead, it was the cliched line about how the voters deserve an election that's focused on the issues, and not the corrupt practices of the incumbent.

  • quote about Campbell

The best thing about DeLay's quote on Campbell is not that he's smearing the possible nominee as completely unqualified for the job.

It's the demonstration that DeLay has thought all along that the job of a Republican Congressman is to represent "Republican voters" rather than to represent all of the residents of the district.

George Washington sure would be proud.

  • Tom DeLay and those who elect people like him

As the hoopla and delight over DeLay's decision to leave political office escalates, I cannot help wondering when the citizens and voters of this country will acknowledge and accept their complicity in electing and reelecting politicians who hold their own personal interests for power over the good of the American citizens. Politicians like DeLay don't just pop up in the House and Senate. They began back in their hometowns where the voters could see them up close and personal. What does this say about us as the citizens, when we promote crooked self serving politicians. Unfortunately, those of us who oppose candidates who are unqualified, egotistical and unethical must suffer the election results along with the majority who fall for the razzle and dazzle and don't bother to investigate the truth. Our government and our country are not TV popularity contests and we are not voting for an American Idol. The harm this country suffers and the payment exacted on America's citizens are direct results of the majority of the citizens actions. In the end, we have only ourselves to blame.

  • Positive for Lampson? Are you kidding?

Lampson's gotta be crying in his beer. The 22nd is a rock-solid Republican district. The only real edge Lampson had was the fact that he's not a raging crook. Take that away, and his fight just got a lot harder. Not impossible (whoever the Repubs run is going to have the taint of DeLay), but a lot harder.

  • Elect Nick Lampson

Progressives should support Lampson, who got in the race when it looked tough. ActBlue has a location, and several progressive bloggers have click-throughs for Lampson. Beats contributing to the DCCC.
