The political score card

A partisan analysis of chin flips, punched cops and a proposed memorial to the fallen.

It IS a big deal...

... and War Room shouldn't lump it with the "petty" fights. I am a lifelong Democrat and try to support my party, but let's get real here: She punched a peace officer in his proper execution of his duties. She should get the same treatment anyone else would who punches a Capitol Police officer.... no more, no less.

It's a little silly to see people saying this is a petty fight, and to note that some of them were calling for Cheney's head in the whole buckshot thing. Personally, I think the Vice President _also_ should have suffered the consequences any citizen would, which would have included at the least a real investigation. But you can't hurl bricks at the Republicans for being "above the law" and then call a Democrat hitting a cop a "petty" dispute.

What the ...

As a pretty die-hard Dean democrat, I have to admit I find the idea of an elected official punching a peace officer outrageous and offensive. If she is in fact guilty, I'd hope they'd throw the book at her.

How could you possibly describe an investigation into whether or not this incident occured as petty?

I agree 100% with the other letter writers: the Repubs are right about McKinney

Punching an officer IS a big deal!!! Instead of explaining who she is, providing identification, etc., she instead allegedly chose to punch the officer.

Is this a good leadership quality? Is violence an acceptable way to solve miscommunication problems?

For Chrissake, take of your partisan blinders and admit when a Dem does something wrong.

Scalia's gesture

Let me begin by saying I can't stand Scalia. If he's not a fascist, he's certainly close. But the recent flap over his gesture is ridiculous. It's a Sicilian gesture. I know because my dad was Sicilian. It's dismissive, it's rude, it's saying bug off. It's not obscene. It's also no big deal. So go after Scalia on things that matter, like civil liberties. And no, the Democrats don't get that point War Room awarded. What they get on this one is the same gesture Scalia made.

proposed memorial

Isn't it a little early for an Afghan/Iraq heroes memorial? Our Great Helmsman has finally admitted that he intends to keep our soldiers there at least as long as he has a say in the matter. It seems likely, therefore, that there will be many more names to add, perhaps enough to merit something more substantial than can be conveniently accommodated in the rotunda.
