  • Jeez

I was reading this story and actually felt like I could write reams, and reams, of stuff. Literally every sentence of this account inspired another thousand words. But then I read BobbyG's response, and I thought, "Actually, that says it all. Domenech really has no other honorable choice but to join the Army and get his privileged little ass over to Iraq as fast as he can." Beyond that, there's really nothing left to be said.

ps--Oh, and to Diane, all I have to say is, if those right wing bloggers were actually capable of grasping the irony, well, they wouldn't be right-wing bloggers, would they?

pps--To any right-wing bloggers who might happen to read this: No, this is no sort of "victory" for the left. There is nothing to "celebrate." Those of us on the left aren't feeling anything that could possibly be described as "satisfaction" over this. Not even close.

  • How quickly...

    ...they forget about Dan Rather.

  • Mentally ill, or just a liar and thief?

The plagiarism examples I've seen, together with Domenech's clumsy and dishonest self-defense, show that he has no talent as a writer, no talent as a liar, and no talent as a plagiarist. Like his hero President, poor Ben is hopelessly incompetent. Bravo to his friends for supporting him, but they'd be fools to hire him to write anything.

Aside from that, the kindest interpretation is that Domenech, like former Bush advisor and shoplifter Claude Allen, is mentally incapable of moral judgments - like all far-right conservatives, in my humble opinion.

If red-staters don't like those explanations, we're back to habitual dishonesty, pure and simple.

  • alternative?

"And while they put all their energy and venom into this campaign, it is worth remembering that for all the noise -- they have yet to present a real alternative to an America that rests on the foundation of freedom, free markets and family."

That, of course, is the biggest slander of all: The idea that liberals WANT an "alternative" to freedom and family.

Those of us who want the administration to stop spying on us without warrants, to stop imprisoning American citizens without charges, and to stop torturing our fellow human beings -- we aren't looking for an "alternative" to freedom. What conservatives are offering us is the "alternative". We want the real thing.

And the gays and lesbians who want to marry and adopt children -- they aren't looking for an "alternative" to family. They're looking for the real thing.

And as for the third topic, free markets: Yes, I want an alternative to the free market in political favors that the Republicans have established in Washington. Sign me up for that one.

  • Domenech Plagarism

    One question:

Did Domenech actually write the apology?

  • Who?

I had never heard of this guy before you devoted many, many words to him. He doesn't deserve that much attention.

  • Remedial English

Mr. Domenech writes whether people should trust "someone who you worked with and someone who you know or a left winger. I don't know whom I would trust but I would not offer up as a writer someone who doesn't know that "who" is not a an object pronoun-but then I am a lefty.

  • The Similarities Are Astounding

Whew. I just visited the blog in question to read for myself the response by Mike Krempasky and subsequent comments. I must say, the vitriol and hate of angry, frustrated and ignorant conservatives positively reverberates off of the page and attacks the faculties of the reader.

What strikes me most about reading posts and comments by individuals like those writing and posting on RedState is the eerie similarity of writing style and commentary they have to various racist hate sites I have stumbled upon in the past.

As I read a sampling of posts on RedState, I was overcome with the same kind of gut-wrenching fear and sickness I experienced the first time I stumbled upon a White Power hate site many years ago. The ignorance, combined with the roiling undercurrent of hatred for anyone not sharing the same ideology, coupled with the sense of potential violence these people are capable of (think Abu Ghraib supporters and death penalty proponents) left me utterly shaken to the core and fearful of my fellow Amerikan.

Thank the gods that these people, although extremely vocal—just like the KKK—are also a small minority—just like the KKK. The more we expose them for their duplicitous actions and hatemongering, the more we educate those who might be duped into following them.

  • It was a joy to squash this little shit

Thanks to Ben for the memories. Good luck to him in the "wilderness".

P.S. Watch out for the bears, Ben-ji (they can smell stinkers like you from miles away)!
