I wonder
Where Gore might fit in these numbers.

Hillary
Love her, but we've really got to give up the idea of running her anywhere but New York. We might as well go with a Gore-Kerry ticket. Let's win this one, to piss off the Gipper.

Unified
On the left, we have to agree on what we want. We have to unify to overcome the Rovian/Murdoch juggernaut. How can we expect to have a conversation with the Right if we can't discuss issues amongst ourselves without shout-downs, condemnations and name-calling. FYI - my $0.02 is on Howard Dean.

Enough Hillary certainty, already
I'm getting a little tired of the buzz that Senator Hillary Clinton WILL run for president, that she WILL be nominated. Let's take a look at the record of the pundits:
In 1976 CBS commentator Bruce Morton told us that Ted Kennedy "can have the nomination any time he wants it." The editor of the Atlanta Constitution openly sneered at the idea that Governor Jimmy Carter would run for president.
In January of 1980 Tom Pettit, of NBC, said "I would like to suggest that Ronald Reagan is politically dead." When Reagan was overheard telling what we call "a Pollack joke" on the campaign bus in New Hampshire, the pundit class concluded there was no way he could ever win.
In 1988 the buzz was that New York Governor Mario Cuomo would come out of nowhere to become a last-minute popular Democratic candidate and lead the Democrats to a win.
In 1992 the pundits told us that nobody could unseat George H.W. Bush after his victory over the Iraqi army in the Gulf War.
The presidential elections are two and a half years away, during which time a lot of unforseen things can happen. Focusing so narrowly on Hillary Clinmton because, well, because, well, because she MUST be the candidate blinds everybody, supporters and opponents alike, to what may really happen.

can McCain really get the nomination?
The conservative establishment didn't let him win last time, they chose the unqualified and incapable George W. Bush. Hillary Clinton also will not win the nomination. Polls at this stage are all name recognition. Trying to guess nominees far out is not meaningful, who would have guessed Bill Clinton in 1990? Or John Kerry in 2003?

Glad Warner is second in line. Hope he gets it. Mcain will be 72
in '08 and has cancer. Might hold him back.

Warner/Obama 2008--It's called WINNING
Mark Warner was born in Indiana. Left the governorship of Virginia with a 70% favorable rating. Is a moderate. Would carry Virginia and a few other Red States. Obama would bring charisma and the ability to get out the liberal/minority vote. The contrast of a would be 72-yr. old McCain in 2008 and a Warner/Obama ticket would be striking(The past vs the future). Obama has said he wouldn't consider VP. I was a county co-ordinator for him in 2004. He would not turn his back on his party if Warner asked. Gore will not run. Who would Karl Rove choose for 2008? Hillary. What ticket would he fear most? Warner/Obama. Let's WIN for a change!

Mmmm... bait!
Let's have fun!
Assuming the whole world doesn't go to hell in the next two years - and that's an assumption on the same lines as "we will be greeted as liberators" - I'd be tickled pink to see a Richardson/Obama ticket.

Why are we having Hillary jammed down our throats?
As I recall, Hillary Clinton, the one term senator, voted for Bush's first round of tax cuts. We know she voted for the Patriot Act, before the Senate had a chance to read it. She voted to give up the congressional power to declare war and to put her faith in George Bush. It was her considered judgement that BUSH'S judgement should be the one to count in the matter of invading a country. Recently she came out for an anti-flag burning law, though there seems to be no epidemic of flag burning. TODAY she voted to renew the Patriot Act.
What has she done to deserve to lead the progressives, Democrats and independents into battle against George Bush? She'd be the first female president. So what! Alberto Gonzalez is the first Mexican-American Attorney General. Is that anything to be proud of?
Where were Hillary Clinton, Mark Warner, John Edwards, Evan Bayh and Bill Richardson when we needed them? When Bush's numbers were high? Do they believe he has broken the law? Would they encourage their party to impeach him if the Democrats win the Congress this year? I doubt it. They're 'players', the careful guys the smart money is always on.
The smart boys may be in for a surprise. There are a lot of us that weren't happy with getting Kerry-Edwards last time. ...Russ Feingold doesn't have the baggage. He voted against the war. He was brave enough to be the sole Senate vote against the Patriot Act.
Enough talk about Hillary. Give us someone who opposed Bush, when his poll numbers were in the 80s!

Count one more for Feingold
Exactly! Why should we settle for less... when there are principled candidates available, who are not afraid to say exactly what they stands for?
In fact, I posted something myself about this very issue the other day, pairing Russ Feingold with John Conyers. Imagine that ticket! Two-- count 'em-- two candidates with significant experience, both unafraid to take a principled stand. Could the GOP that chose GWB over McCain possibly match that?
If you want to read the rest of my reasoning, you'll find it here: http://blogs.salon.com/0004000/2006/02/23.html#a422, along with my "litmus test."
I will admit, though, that Warner/Obama may have more charisma. Still, why not at least start the discussion with substance, and leave the horse race for later on?

Bring on Al Gore
Despite the fact that I hold great respect for John McCain, I would hate to see the GOP take back the White House. Is there any sort of concerted campaign to convince Al Gore to run?

McLame
How in the world John McCain retained his "tough maverick" identity after nearly six years of fellating Commander Codpiece is beyond me entirely. After what those Rovian pricks did to him in South Carolina in '00 should have had him at odds with Bushit as a matter of principle from then on. But, no, not Johnny Boy. The Democratic nominee could be Gore, Edwards, Clark, Dean, or a dark horse with an actual spine. Kerry and Hillary need not apply. Ever.
