Hume: Cheney said he had "a beer" on the day of the hunt

Sheriff's Department report said alcohol wasn't a factor in the shooting.

No evidence

Of course not. That's why you wait until the next morning to talk to police. Destroy the evidence then have your pet "news" people state that there's no evidence.

"a beer"

This reminds me of being asked if you've "been drinking" by a cop.

"I just had one, officer!"

In a cop's mind, "one" really means "ten."

cheap shot, tim

i take a back seat to no one in my disdain for dick cheney and this administration, but to point out that he was convicted of drunk driving over 40 years ago is a cheap shot, and bears on recent events not at all.

forty years ago cheney was a young man, and in those days it was not at all uncommon for us to party a bit hard, and make our way home as best we could. you have shown only that cheney was just like many of the rest of us.

if he was convicted of drunk driving ten years ago, or even 20, okay, that's another thing entirely, but 40 years ago? There's not much that any of us did 40 years ago that's relevant today.

that is a cheap shot

I agree. I hate this administration as much as anybody. But the fact that Dick was caught drunk driving over 40 years ago doesn't mean he was drunk Saturday. I think Salon ought to be above implying such a thing.

Rules for Life (with apologies to Nelson Algren)

2. Never eat at any place called Mom's.

3. Never go hunting with an aging, trigger-happy cowboy.

Stolen Memo

This memo from Antonin Scalia to Dick Cheney was discovered in an undisclosed Washington, D.C. dumpster.

To: Dick

From: Tony

All duck hunting trips are cancelled as of 2/15/06. Any further contact between me and you or your staff or your immediate family will be considered only after a weapons pat-down and a breathalyzer test.

Just to clarify something...

I admire the previous letter writers’ sense of fair play; however, if you think implying that Dick Cheney was drunk on Saturday afternoon was a cheap shot, then you definitely take a back seat when it comes to disdain for the Bush Administration.

For example, I know people who are seriously crossing their fingers hoping that Whittington will die. Now that’s what I call disdain!

Beer plus medications?

What medications is Cheney on and is he even supposed to drink alcohol?

The first VP with a criminal record

Cheney, who has never been elected Vice President, is the first person with a criminal record to ever hold that office. Whereas ever Vice President before him managed to have not a single conviction, Cheney has two.

If that doesn't bother you, then thank a Republican. They've worked hard over the past 25 years to lower standards of conduct so far that you'd let them get away with anything.

And 40 years wipes the slate clean? Yes, of course. After all, it's not like he's spent his entire life dedicated to committing one crime after another, is it?

If it's a cheap shot to print the truth, this country could use many more cheap shots, please.
