Why is the press so concerned about two seventy-year-old Republicans running around south Texas shooting guns? It now appears that what really upset most of the press is they weren't notified in time to reverse the outcome!
Now, watch as the fascist spin machine uses this as a justification for why The Dick got out of going to Vietnam: he couldn't even kill an overaged lobbyist at 30 paces. Pathetic, on every possible level.
Calling all lawyers (Constitutional or otherwise): what would have been the implications if Cheney had actually killed his hunting partner? Can a sitting VP be prosecuted for negligence and/or manslaughter? Even if the family doesn't want to pursue a prosecution, would the federal government? And I'm a bit puzzled by the official story on this one. So Whittington was aqpproaching from behind unawares? Even without warning of his approach, it should still be the safest place (note: I am not a hunter, and do not speak from experience here). Did ol' Deadeye Dick whirl a full 180 degrees with his finger on the trigger? If so, did the gun barrel pass across the other hunters who may have been in the party? Were there any other hunters in the party? Has ol' Hair-Trigger Cheney had any hunting accidents before? Enquiring minds want to know. Unless those minds belong to the supine members of mainstream media, who despite their whining, appear to be prepared to accept the White House line 24 hours late.
Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby drove the dying man to Quentin Tarantino's house where he loudly complained about not having a posted sign that said, "Wounded Lobbyist Storage".
I can't wait to see what Letterman, Stewart, and Colbert do with this amazing story. In the meantime, enjoy this:
Old Dick Cheney had a farm,
E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he . . . shot some guys,
Bada bing bada bing bang boom
-- with acknowledgments to Stephen Baldwin's character in 'The Usual Suspects'
P.S. Oswald was a f**
Perhaps the second-in-command needed time to allow that 'fifth' to wear off before notifying the fourth estate of his abuse of his 2nd amendment rights...oh, I could play this game a while longer, but you heard it here first.
"Dick! Quail! Harry, duck!"
This regime can only be toppled by good marketing tactics, not policy discussions. In this case, immediate advantage should be taken of Cheney's inadvertant shot. Use phrases that click, like: "Cheney hunts like he conducts foreign policy: Quick on the draw, causing serious collateral damage while leaving the target intact!"
It is probable that Mrs Armstrong informed the newspaper of a shooting accident, on her property, to control news reports. It would not have been possible to keep the incident "quiet" once Mr.Whitington was admitted to the
hospital. Hospital officials are, likely, required, by law, to report any gun shot wounds. It appears she was attempting to head off the reporting of any version of the shooting other than her own eyewitness account. Either she was initiating a cover-up, or attemping to control media reports. How many people call a newspaper, if a shooting takes place on their property? Hardly an appropriate move.
we hear about Michelle Kwan dropping out of the Olympics immediately after she made her decision, and yet it's at least 24 hours before anyone knows that the Vice President shot a man. Even my church-going conservative co-worker had to admit "Yeah, Bush and Cheney sure do control the media." She may have different values than I do, but my co-worker hit the nail on the head with that comment!
So when we don't uncover the horrifying stockpile of WMD that caused us to go to war in Iraq, it's not the administration's fault - we can't even talk about fault until we smear Joe Wilson by saying his wife, covert agent Valerie Plame, got him a big boondoggle to Africa.
When people are stuck in the Superdome for days without water and electricity, it's not the administation's fault that no one told Bush to cancel his vacation - didn't those poor, thirsty people know that in a few short days, they'd be bumped up in style to the Houston Astrodome? Brownie was doing a heck of a job until someone told Bush to just watch the news. Poor Brownie was then unceremoniously dumped from his post - but kept on the payroll to "help" with the investigation. We should all have that kind of support when we screw up.
And when Cheney shoots a man in the face, it's not Dick's fault that the man stepped into his line of vision. That big orange vest the man wore just made him look more like a quail.
Cheney and his cohorts refuse to be accountable for any of their actions. Always, there is someone else to blame. And when the media goes off on their well-mapped hunts (with directions by Cheney, et al.) to determine if Plame was indeed covert (instead of investigating why our intelligence was so completely off-base), companies like Halliburton are quietly seeing enormous increases in profits, thanks to the help of powerful friends like Dick Cheney.
I hope someday soon, the chickens will come home to roost; that instead of being the hunter, Dick Cheney will himself be the target of an investigation that shows how deeply corrupt this administration really is.
Aren't hunting accidents usually investigated and charges filed if the person doing the firing was negligent? Are there any Texas prosecutors out there willing to take on the White House?
There was one who took on congress and he seems to be holding his own. Please, please let there be someone willing to take on the White House. If we can't get them for all the other laws that they broke, maybe we can get them for negligent hunting. Just a hopeful thought.
Interesting read when you review War Room for the first time since Friday.
Immediately following the shooting news was a pre-weekend briefing with the sub title, "Who's in Cheney's sights?"
Guess we know now, eh.
Also the joke that should be making it's way around the circuit...
"Now we know why Dick Cheney opposes gun control...he can't
do it himself."
ba da bing...
