Tom DeLay
How can the republicans pick someone like Tomas to on Justice sub committee and Appropriations Committee and have people take them seriously? I expect that the powers to be within the party are trying to show that their man is innocent until proven GUILTY, but do you trust this man to treat any position of power with the repect it should be. Its just business as usual with the republicans.

We need a new word for this sort of behavior
The Republicans have engaged in some of the most Orwellian, self-parodying, ironic behavior that I have witnessed since the demise of the old Soviet Union. Clear Skies Initiative. You're doing a heck of a job Brownie. The President has the authority to wiretap without a warrant because it was inherent in the resolution passed by Congress; and even if it wasn't he can do it because he's the President. And now we find them letting Delay have oversight on the people who are investigating and possibly charging him with crimes.
We need to coin a new word for all of this. Ironic is too overused. Orwellian is good, but maybe too literary for today's culture, so I'd like to have a contest to give a name to the all-too-pervasive Republican hypocrisy. Any ideas folks?

Minor Freudian slip?
"They've just given DeLay a coveted seat on the House Appropriations Committee and another on a House subcommittee that overseas the Justice Department."
I know there is concern about outsourcing of American jobs to other countries, but are we really exporting government positions? Sadly, some could argue it would be less damaging to the Constitution than keeping appointed cronies in place.

Money Laundering + Bribery = Appropriations Committee
Just when I thought there was nothing they could do that would surprise me anymore, they go and put Tom DeLay on the House committee in charge of handing out (and laundering?) money and the committee that's overseeing the Justice Department's investigation of a bribery scandal that he's knee-deep in. Isn't it good to know that the Republicans' commitment to Congressional reform is as phony as everything else they say or do.
I guess it could have been worse - they could have also found him a seat on the Ethics Committee. Oh wait, I don't think they even meet anymore. Well, you gotta hand it to the Republicans, they just raised hubris to a new level. (Or maybe the Republican leadership figures they'd better start making nice with Mr. DeLay or he'll implicate them when his Abramoff indictment finally arrives.)

What balls they have
I think the Appropriations Committee appointment is at least as big a story (and as under-reported as) the Justice appointment. If the Dems only had half the balls of these unrepentant scumbags the midterms would be a lock.

response to CRL
How about "repocrisy" for that special brand of hypocrisy practiced by those in current control of the Republican Party?

Republicans have no shame.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Tom Delay was indicted on charges having to do with MONEY and allegedly BREAKING THE LAW . Now, in a shameless move, Republicans reward the fallen House leader with positions on committees having to do with MONEY and JUSTICE!!!
Republicans are terrified of Karl Rove AND Tom DeLay. How dare they call Dems soft on anything, spinless, or unpatriotic. Is there any Republican out there with a conscience?
