I, too, have never understood why people after hurricanes, etc. claim that God is behind their survival. So that means God slew everyone who didn't survive, right? What arrogance to make such claims, but then that's just what one expects of Robertson who is a junior league Elmer Gantry. What's especially disturbing, though, is the way the MSM plays into this rhetoric and routinely reports about "miracles," jsut as they're calling the surviving miner "The Miracle Miner." It's degrading and sensationalistic and as cheap as running segments on windows or dish pans that supposedly show the face of Jesus. We are more and more a nation of boobs and yahoos.

My partner's theory is that everyone gets to heaven...some just have more 'plaining to do when they arrive. With that in mind, I hope Robertson finds himself in close proximity to:

1. All of those poor Katrina victims (who apparently died because the hurrican was God's wrath against New Orleans' less-than-holy atmosphere).

2. All of the 9-11 victims (who apparently died because of this country's growing acceptance of gays and lesbians, among other traits)

3. The late actor/ress Divine (just to see the look on Robertson's face).

Say what you will about his politics, Ariel Sharon is a 77-year-old man with a recent history of medical problems.

He left out "overweight".

Not trying to be rude. Just saying.

What is a mystery is why anyone takes Pat Robertson seriously anymore.

Maybe because his name keeps appearing even in places like Salon?

Haven't these guys noticed that the amount this country gets hammered is directly proportional to the power it gives to people like Pat Robertson and George W. Bush?

Dear God,

When you finally decide in your infinite wisdom that Pat Robertson's time has come, I would like to request that you clearly state your intentions, possibly in the form of a lightning bolt or a large handwritten note saying "I killed Pat Robertson. Love, God". Alternatively, maybe the prophet Elijah could descend from the heavens in a chariot of fire and run Pat over or you could turn him into a pillar of salt on national television.

Whatever form of demise you have intended for Pat in your infinite mercy, I only ask that you leave a note, calling card, or at least appear on Hannity & Colmes to take credit. Thank you.

Yes, if Sharon dies, it won't be because he was a 77 year-old man in poor health who had a stroke, it will be because he was fat. Because only fat 77 year-olds die, apparently.

Fat people are all evil, stupid, ugly, in poor health, and/or deserving of death: the one thing upon which liberals and conservatives -- at least, moronic non-fat ones -- can agree.

I'm thrilled about Pat Robertson's latest comments about Prime Minster Sharon. Every ignorant, intolerant, insane word that issues forth from this idiot's piehole just makes the wacko Christian Right look more and more ridiculous. Keep Pat talking long enough and he might just wake up the conservative Christian rank and file to the fact that their shepherd are a bunch of corrupt, delusional, power-mad hypocrites.

God talks to me and she told me that she gave Pat Robertson a really small penis, and she wishes that she had endowed him more generously so he wouldn't feel the need to give away all the things she tells him in confidence. "My bad," she says, whenever the subject comes up, with a genuine tone of sadness in her voice. I don't think she's joking about it.

But then sometimes she laughs and says that she gave his wife a really big vagina to make up for it. She cracks me up. I can't stay mad at 'er.

I agree with pookastew...Robertson is taken seriously because the media continues to cover his ignorant, irrational, insane antics and comments. If you ignore him, he'll eventually go away. Please stop giving him an outlet, he already has the 700 Club...let the crazy religious right have him to themselves.

As a Christian, albeit a liberal one (as these things go) I do believe that God has a plan and that the cycle of life and death is part of one grand tapestry.

However, it's silly and self-serving to pretend that every time something terrible in the world, it's because God is striking them down for wickedness. If that were the case, God is obviously smiling on Fidel Castro, who is the longest-surviving world leader.

By Robertson's logic, God loves Fidel. And I'm sure that's true, in a "God Loves Everyone" sort of way. He also loves Mommar Qaddafi (or however you spell it this week). Even Saddam, who's probably going to be axed in the course of this trial, was obviously loved enough to give him one of the longest reigns in world politics.

On the flipside, one has to wonder if Massachussets' mild weather these past few years, its decent economy and its success with both the Red Sox and the Patriots, is a reward for finally making a nod toward tolerance with gay marriage.

The fact is, everybody dies. Robertson's arrogance in claiming to know the mind of God is alarming, but not half as alarming as his seeming belief that God is his personal hitman, fighting on his behalf in the political arena.

Pat Robertson and the other usual suspects make it too easy to be an unbeliever. We look at Pat, Jerry Falwell, Bill O'Reilly, and the other prominent media-beloved Christians, and say, "What a pile of pinheads." There are intelligent Christians in this country, but when the president is intellectually challenged and the media plays to the brain-dead crowd, those voices are ignored. Hey, Pat, Jerry, Bill, and crew, forget about the war on Christmas. The real war against Christianity is the media letting ignorant yahoos like you define Christianity. Why don't you shut up and let your betters do the talking?
