The president admits a mistake -- but not on Iraq

He says it's his fault that people think he's uninformed.

OK, now I'm REALLY convinced that irony is dead

And he's still convinced, more or less, that Dick Cheney was right when he insisted that U.S. troops would be welcomed as "liberators" in Iraq. "I think we are welcomed," Bush said, "but it was not a peaceful welcome."

I just don't know what to say.

The Welcome Mat Was Actually Out

RE: "And he's still convinced, more or less, that Dick Cheney was right when he insisted that U.S. troops would be welcomed as "liberators" in Iraq. "I think we are welcomed," Bush said, "but it was not a peaceful welcome."

That would be an understatement George. I guess it's kind of like rioting in Detroit after the Pistons won the NBA title. The Iraqis were happy with our arrival but got a little frisky in their celebration, is that it?

Good lord

The more Bush speaks in unscripted venues, the more evidence piles up showing him to be out of touch, inarticulate and one of the greatest unintentional comedians working in show business today.

I need humor to allow me to survive this administration, but I prefer others to make fun of the Bush administration than for them to do it unintentionally to themselves.

He says he'd still do it again

Ya gotta love the arrogance. Bush says even knowing what we know today, he'd still invade Iraq.

Right.

Had the Congress and the public known the truth in 2002-2003 Bush would NEVER have gotten the blank check unilateral authority he got.

I think he knew EXACTLY back then what we all now know -- that Saddam was bluffing about WMD (in large measure -- no surprise -- to keep his grip on power). Consequently, Bush could not let the U.N. inspections run their course, or the lie would have been laid bare. Hence the precipitous rush to war.

Lying dilettante narcissist.

Follow-up questions

To be honest, I couldn't watch the whole interview. It made me feel too uncomfortable. For starters, what was wrong with Williams? It seemed like he couldn't make eye contact. And, correct me if I'm wrong, he wasn't posing any follow-up questions. I felt I was watching pure PR, softballs tossed to make the president look like a good hitter, and then on to the next "tough" question.

Not the Bubble Boy?

Does no one but me see the disconnect between George Walker Bush and the good citizens of the USA? Not to mention Planet Earth? Well, just to set the record straight, I don't think the president is uninformed, just unconcerned, unmoved, uncaring, and finally, unable and unwilling to see the world the way it really is. He insists on believing the lies he told us, and he insists on insisting that he's right about...EVERYTHING! He insists on barreling ahead with the notion that it's George W. Bush's world and the rest of us just live here. As for those modest improvements in his approval rating, it's pretty obvious there are some out there that think $2.20 a gallon for regular is a sight better than $3.45 a gallon, and now they can go ahead with their Hummer purchase, but here in the real world where the rest of us live, we're thinking the oligarchs at Exxon-Mobil, Shell, and BP got dirty, rotten, filthy, stinking richer at our expense, and the "well aware" president doesn't seem to mind. Can't see the higher gas and heating bills through the bubble, can you?

The President was only kidding about not reading newspapers

and he actually is aware that there "is" opinions that differ from his. Well, Goody Goody!
