  • Grrrrr!

So, with our nation at war, the work of the Congress will stop for an extra 2 weeks to help out this nincompoop?

Anybody have any ideas what we do about this?

  • Delay for DeLay

One possible downside for delaying reconvening the House is the likelihood that DeLay may get whacked with a Federal indictment courtesy of the Abramoff scandal.

Funny thing about this Texas deal, the time may come for Tom DeLay when he will look back longingly at the good ole days when he was just under indictment in big-T, l'il e, l'il x-a-s, podner, cause once Federal indictments come in, it'll make short time in a Texas minimum security pen seem like a links outing to the Auld Course at St. Andrews.

Even if found guilty in Texas, the judge would probably coddle the little criminal. If Bug-boy gets convicted by the Feds, however, there's those pesky Federal sentencing guidelines that don't allow the judge to give a respectable man of accomplishments like Tom DeLay the break he deserves. Nope - Tom'll just have to do his time like every other cheap tin-horn grifter in the Federal system.

  • Let's pay them for 11 months

At $158,100/year (not including benefits) for 435 House members, one month's pay is about $5,700,000. That ought to get back a few student loans and food stamps. Just for reference, house.gov says that the first House meeting in 2005 happened on January 4th.

  • They Just Handed Democrats a Gift

If the Democrats make the most of this, they should be able to not only make the Republicans look like slackers, who are uninterested in doing the people's work but should also be able to force a very embarressed Republican controlled House back to work.
