A jolt for Joe-mentum?

Former Gov. and Sen. Lowell Weicker says he may run against Lieberman to challenge him on the war.

Joe Ho!

As a former resident of Connecticut, my one wish is that Weicker register as a Democrat and destroy that sanctimonious hypocrite in the primary. Lieberman is a true whore, and I am ashamed that the Democratic Party hasn't expelled his sorry ass.

Senator Joe Lieberman

A great many people in my circle believe that Senator Joe is the reason Al Gore lost the election.

Revisionist History

A small reminder, T.C. -- Al Gore did not lose the election.

Joe in the Green Zone?

When Lieberman came back gushing about the "progress" in Iraq, I wonder if it isn't because he was only in the "Green Zone" ! The Green Zone is basically a "safety zone" and evidently a city in and of itself with hotels (or at least one is under construction), shopping et al ... Otherwise his comments make no sense.

It probably would not take much for Weicker or anyone else to win as long as Lieberman continues to support Bush's misguided, mismanaged war.

1988, not 1998

A challenge for Lieberman would certainly go a long way toward gauging just how serious people are about getting out of Iraq. I would've thought people would have felt this way a year ago and it certainly didn't happen then.

Lieberman elected with Republican money

Lieberman was elected in 1988, not '98, when he beat Weicker very narrowly. William F. Buckley (a Sharon, CT resident) and friends were behind Lieberman's victory. An ultra-conservative Democrat was preferable to them over the very progressive Republican Weicker. Lieberman's Democratic credentials are non-existant even if he was Gore's running mate in 2000, itself miraculous given that Gore won the election.

Weicker retaliated against Buckley & Co. by becoming governor of CT, as an independent, and instiuting an income tax, which probably took several years off Buckley's life. Weicker chose not to run again having accomplished his biggest goal.

If Weicker does run for the Senate again, assuming Lieberman isn't Secretary of Defense by then, and/or an announced Repug, he will surely do it as an independent voting with the Dems. Looks like great political theater to me.

74, walks with a cane, and does not want to run

Mr. Weickert is having a little fun and making some headlines. Best wishes, Lowell!

A jolt for Joe-mentum?

Go, Lowell Weicker!! This Democrat would certainly welcome you in the Senate to replace Joe Lieberman!

I'm so tired of voting against Joe Liebermouth

Wouldn't it be great if a true Democrat or even an independent ran against this phony? Once again, I'll vote against Joe Blowhard by voting for whomever runs against him. But I would sure love to vote FOR a candidate, to be able to wholeheartedly support someone, Weicker even, who's at the very least honest about his or her political position. We might have a Republican governor here in CT, but we thought we were voting for Democrat senators. Only one of them is a Democrat.

One of the things that really bothers me about Lieberman is the fact that he manages to get so much face time by jumping in on issues that he knows nothing about. It also bugs me that he isn't honest about how much his religion really affects the positions he takes and the votes he casts. He's gotten hypocritical that his voice makes me cringe even more than Bushie's does.

Maybe if Joe would've run just one campaign, for Veep, rather than hedging his bets and also running a campaign for Senate here in CT, Gore would've won by a decisive enough margin that there would have been no question about the victor. I know it certainly bothered a lot of people here that he was running for two positions. Hedging like that just signaled that he didn't take the campaign seriously -- so why should anyone else?

It's time for Joe to go.
