Senate Closure

Finally a sign that the Democrats are regaining a spine!

My pessimism steps in, Manhattanite

The Democrats got a promise of a timetable in two weeks. That's it. Between now and then, we are going to have the All-Alito, All-The-Time news broken up by commercials and perhaps a Fitzgerald name drop or two. Robertson could easily make that two weeks slip to four, and oh look, the Winter holiday, I promise to pick it up when we get back, etc.

Okay, so let's say the timetable is released. That can be tinkered with so inordinate delays are thrown into the system. Heck, they can delay until after Election Day and then start the process ALL OVER AGAIN!

I think it would be fairer to say the Democrats have started to grow a tailbone. Now, if they can add a few vertebrae on top of that, then we might be going places. Until then, I won't hold my breath.

Democrats' First Step

So happy that the first step has been taken but the Dems must keep driving on this issue. This administration is THE MOST CORRUPT! I never thought I would see something worse than the Nixon administration but this group has done it! Thank God the U.S. population is coming around on this and we will all keep the pressure on. We must get to the bottom of how all of this pressure to go to war came about. I, for one, have been watching from the beginning and I could have predicted this outcome. One doesn't need to be a history scholar to know that we would not be "welcomed with flowers" in Iraq. I have so much more to say as I do have some inside information from a State Department employee. This all has to do with the feelings of "important people" concerning the first Iraq war.

Don't Buy Into The GOP/Media Frame

Reid didn't close the Senate down, he got the doors to the Senate chamber closed.

CNN is framing this as closing down the Senate, which is reminiscent of when the GOP House literally shut down the government back in 1994 -- a much different, much more radical, and very unpopular move.

Home , Bill - Go home , to Tara ...

... What I think I enjoyed most in this drama was seeing Mr. Frist , all aquiver with outrage , catch his breath in a most dramatic manner , before decrying the " Slap across his face .. " ! Oh the DRAMA ! For a fleeting moment , I thought Frist might just swoon right into Lotts waiting arms ! Tara , Bill - Yes , go home to Tara ! Then you'll think about this , tomorrow ! ... ;)

Harry Reid's "W"

I was by turns disappointed and terrified when Harry Reid became minority leader, but this guy's growing on me. He's not to be underestimated, based on yesterday's use of Rule 21--and his "slap-in-the-face" comment. Is he the evolutionary first digit of the "tailbone" the Democrats need? One can only hope...

What?

I would love an in depth look into what exactly this means and why Frist feels he was slapped (Perhaps the most gratifying mental image I've ever had). I am woefully ignorant and my head is spinning with all the spin about this.
