Demanding a 'non' religious test for public office
Is as objectionable as the other way around.

Senator Reid is not running for President
Herein we have the major difference between Senator Reid and Governor Romney. If Harry Reid was running for President, asking him whether or not he believed blacks are descended from Cain, and whether or not native-americans (and by extension, any non-caucasian/white ethnicity) are darker skinned due to the sin of their forefathers, is a truly acceptable question when you are going to be governing these people in a presidential faculty.

Will Romney address THIS???
If you go to http://scriptures.lds.org/js_h/1 you can read in the Church's own history that Jesus Himself told Joseph Smith that all religions (except the Mormon faith) are wrong.
That's quite a belief. If you're Catholic, Jesus says you're wrong. Ditto Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, etc., etc., etc.
And since God was there too, introducing His "son" and saying listen to Him, that means God agrees!!! All you religions that aren't Mormom are wrong in God's eyes!!!
Boy, do I want a President, in these days of no separation between church and state, to believe that God and Jesus say that my church is WRONG!
Will Romney address what is called "Joseph Smith's First Vision"? I hope so. But I'm not holding my breath.

Romney and his "faith"
I'll be anxious to see how Mitt Romney manages to work Ronald Reagan into his discussion about his "faith."
I have faith that he will find some connection between himself and the Gyper.
It's interesting that this candidate seems to think that aligning himself with one of the most crooked presidents (and Regan was) in our history he can help himself become nominated.
Ronald Reagan was NOT a hero. Ronald Reagan was a Nero. He fiddled and did nothing between naps while the nation was subjected to his staff being indicted one after the other, the citizens were forced into his trickle down policies and the country was governed by the first female president, Nancy Reagan.
Meanwhile, keep the faith.

It's a shame that theists can run for office
Just because Mormons believe in all sorts of crazy things, that doesn't make them crazier than believers of other faiths. Mormonism is just like any other racist, sexist, homophobic, creationist religion. I'd rather have Romney than a "born again" nut like G.W. Bush.

In the spirit of JFK
"Ich bin ein Mormon" or should it be "Ich bin ein Christian"? Mormonism as a religion has some pretty kooky beliefs and some reprehensible teachings regarding the evolutions of races and God's role in skin pigmentation. Even so, it really isn't much more kooky than believing in a God-man borne to a virgin who by dying on the cross like thousands of other individuals under Roman rule somehow allows remission of sins upon belief in the said crucifixion.
As a Utahn, I've voted for tons of Mormons. Usually my choice is between a Mormon Democrat and a Mormon Republican. Many have served the public well, others haven't. It isn't Mitt's religion that bothers me as much as the ideas he's espoused and the fact that his views seem to conform to whomever is his target audience.
-
Kookie religious beliefs
Although my first reaction to Romney was that I could never vote for someone who believed in such nonsense as the Mormon religion, I realized that the "standard" Christian faiths are also based on nonsense, as several others have commented.
And again, it's not his religious beliefs that alarm me so much as his stated political beliefs. I could never vote for him for anything.

They're all Nutty!
NicoleM said: “I don't believe that all religious people are delusional or idiotic. But anyone who truly, honestly buys the load of crap that Joseph Smith was selling, yeah. Delusional and/or idiotic.”
Again, cherry picking Nicole. Yes they have some whacky beliefs but is it any whackier than speaking in tongues, believing the earth is 6000 years old, drinking what some people think is literaly the blood of Christ, sacrificing animals or dancing around a holy rock seven times or any of the other nutty supersticious beliefs held by the oddly named ‘mainstream’ religions.
I don’t want to be cast as a defender of Mormonism but I don’t think you would speak of Jews the same way you speak of Mormons and there ain't a whole lot of difference in their wackiness factor.

The TRUTH
When you want to know the truth it's always good to go to the source, anyone can make up anything or spread untruths, ie. most of you who have posted about The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints (Mormon church). Don't always believe everything you hear. Go to Mormon.org to learn the truth about the church if you'd really like to know. Also, to know the goodness of the beliefs look at what it produces, typically good, moral people. I've met quite a few.
