I did watch the ad, but I don't get the joke. Can you explain the basics for me? I don't think Huckabee is kidding when he says he will protect the 2nd amendment, right? And that really was Chuck Norris? I've seen several funny ads via Salon this season (Richardson's job interview, Edwards' use of the song "Hair"), so I don't think I'm comically bankrupt. I just don't get how this one is funny. Norris and Huckabee come off like awkward co-hosts of a late-night movie (e.g. Big Chuck and Little John if you're my age and from Ohio) instead of a comfortable straight-man/funny-man team. What am I missing?
So he's stolen a joke from Family Guy. Did he reference the show or just steal it outright? I wonder if the people he's trying to reach like that show at all. Somehow I doubt it. Can the writers ask him not to use it the way musicians asked Bush not to use their songs?
From wikipedia:
"Now an outspoken Christian, Norris is the author of several Christian books, such as The Justice Riders. He has also been in a few TV commercials promoting Bible study and prayer in public schools, in addition to efforts to reduce drug use. In 2006, he began penning a column for the conservative news website WorldNetDaily. In his columns, he has expressed belief in Biblical creationism,[9] those who are troubled should turn to Jesus, and is quoted as saying "true patriots" do not stay clear of discussing religion and politics.[10]
"Norris serves on the board of directors of the NCBCPS, an organization promoting the use of the Bible in public schools, and also speaks on behalf of organizations advocating prayer in public schools."
The fist under the beard joke? That's from last week's episode of "Family Guy." Nice one.
By now, the "Chuck Norris is a badass" phenomenon has probably surpassed "you might be a redneck if."
I don't see what's ironic about Huckabee making the same jokes. He's not making a comment about machismo, he's co-opting it from Chuck Norris, albeit in a humorous way (by co-opting some other people's jokes.)
I'm just waiting to see who Ted Nugent endorses before I decide which candidate to support.
Actually, Hillary Clinton seems to have the early lead in the campaign humor derby, if there is such a thing. The "Sopranos" finale takeoff broke new ground for a presidential campaign, where humor that isn't mocking the opposition is rare. I understand she has another comic ad in circulation, which I have not seen.
Family Guy stole it from here: http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/
"After a night of drinking, Chuck Norris doesn't throw up, he throws DOWN."
Good for Huckabee. Still won't vote for him, but this gave me a nice chuckle.

OK, the "Chuck Norris doesn't have a chin" thing is a joke...one of many that have been going around the 'net for the past couple of years, (www.chucknorrisfacts.com).
But the endorsement is dead serious. My elderly aunt sent me copy of an editorial published on www.wnd.com (I believe that's short for "Wingnut Daily").
Yeah, I couldn't believe it either.
Funny? Not so much.
I read somewhere that Fred Thompson is getting an endorsement from that guy who plays the DA on "Law & Order."
I consider humor a sign of intelligence, and by that measure Huckabee is definitely the smartest of the Republican candidates. I hadn't ever heard of Chuck Norris jokes, nor did I see that joke on Family Guy, so I found the video funny. I found the video clips of The Daily Show and Colbert Report interesting because it seems weird that a candidate trying to be the authentic conservative is getting his media attention on liberal media like not just Comedy Central, but I've heard him interviewed by Bill Maher and Thom Hartmann too. Looks like it's working for him, which might show not just the liberal media is getting more influential, but that Huckabee is smart enough to find an alternative strategy.
On the other hand, there's this column a few days ago: http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2007/11/13/huckabee/. There's also the conservative religious leaning of Norris that, beyond the humor, makes me wonder just what Huckabee wants to do. If he gets nowhere in the GOP, I'm content to let him be this congenial former governor who can preach dietary reform to our obese society. However, we have enough ethically challenged theocrats as it is.
Even if the guy wasn't the anti christ, this wasn't funny. What is it with you guys and Huckabee?
Looks like somebody hired themselves an internet consultant!
As others have noted, the Chuck Norris jokes are stolen. The music in the second ad is from another internet sensation: David Hasselhoff's cover of "Hooked on a Feeling."

Don't get me wrong; I think Huckabee's a lunatic, but I thought this ad was pretty good.
Huckabee talks a good game- I thought he did well on the Daily Show awhile back (or was it Colbert Report?), but I've heard some wacky stuff about him from family in Arkansas...
While the Chuck Norris facts gag was indeed quite funny for about 5 minutes, comparing this ad in any way to Colbert or Stewart is wwwwaaaayyyy off base. While they use the truth as a tool for humor, all Huckabee is doing is following one ridiculous Chuck Norris fact with an almost as ridiculous fact of his own.
