I never did like the anon. thing. It's like being in the town square in ye old-e times...this is a "public" forum, and if you don't have the courage to post on this forum as you would speak in public, then maybe you should keep your vitrolic comments to yourself.
It's too easy to speak tough yet act cowardly and remain anonymous on the internet. Salon is bigger than that, as a forum for free thought, and this is a major step in the right direction.
And rating users is a great idea as well...kinda like on eBay...
BTW, there's a way to keep anonymous on Salon...if you want to say something that might be incriminating, just create another goof profile...something that NOBODY would ever figure out, like HaywoodJablowme58 or IPFreely882561...
