I have to admit, since Bartlet left I haven't visited audiofile as regularly. This means once a week, a opposed to everyday. The sad story is, cultural cover at Salon is dismal. Now I read that you will be beefing up your T.V. coverage. Who cares? There are dynamic arts cultural happenings all over the world that inform our daily lives and provide insight into our contemporary mind set. I am a news junkie, but I also appreciate the Arts, knowing that at the end of the day it is our cultural artifacts and memories that survive. We will see how long I can keep up with Salon without the little candy I used to look forward to.
I really enjoyed audiofile. I wasn't a daily user, but did come in every week or two and get the new files--I loved the exposure to different artists and genres.
I hope you bring it back, or something similar. Thanks for keeping the archives up, at least.
Count me as another reader that is disappointed in the disappearance of Audiophile. It was a great, quick source for finding new music. It was probably one of the only remaining reasons I used to read Salon on a daily basis. Now I check it about once a week.
I'm extremely sorry about your dumping Audiofile. Lately, I have been finding the general level of writing in your other departments to be ranging from dim to outright boring. With Audiofile disappearing, this reader really has no good reason to return to Salon. Actually, you should pick another name for your rag, because a true "salon" it is not.

I loved Audiofile but wasn't able to devote time to it daily. But I miss it and want it back. As you revisit your culture and arts content consider making Audiofile a weekly column. So many of the comments listed here mention this as a great place to come up with new favorite artists and I heartily agree.
But I also agree that there are so many new artists and so many varied styles that it is difficult to keep up. That's why we need something like Audiofile.
I hope it can return as a weekly soon.
I sure would like to see the return of Audiofile! It was a great service, and I will really miss it. It was the main reason I came to Salon. I won't come as frequently now.
I don't write letters to the editor and such, but I registered just now for the express purpose of explaining how strongly I feel about Audiofile, for what it's worth. Salon is the site I visit the most after Google, and I don't read any of the political or sports stories. Audiophile is well-written, sometimes gets me excited in anticipation, and contributes in a small way to my quality of life -- two years on I still walk EVERYWHERE with my mp3 player, and that's partly because of the amazing music I get from the legwork put in by Thomas Bartlett and David Marchese. When my friends ask me where I get all the great music, I duly accept my cool point and then direct them to Salon.com.
Since we're thinking wishfully, please bring back Amy Reiter to the Fix. Holy crap, she was funny.
I haven't seen any progressive reason for canning audiophile and have seen NOTHING to replace it. Sure it has only been a couple weeks, but wouldn't you normally have a replacement ready to go before dumping a feature? Hmmm . . . a TV feature. Good god, there are a million places to go on the web for tv information, etc.
I'd really like to support you, Salon. I do enjoy other areas but come on, audio file was unlike anything else on the web. Bad move.
Your decision seriously diminishes the appeal of your site for me. Not to be excessivly rude, but this sucks. Perhaps you should devote more time thinking about the quality of what you post to your site, rather than making random and questionable speculations based on web metrics.
Audiofile was a favorite of mine, and many others from what I see here. Count me as another who will not renew his subscription because of this poorly thought decision.
Any word on when this is going to occur, or was that just lip service?
So far, it's just the sound of crickets chirping.
I also would like a refund. I loved the audiofile blog and my goodness what are you doing about the culture section of your on-line mag. Latley it hasn't really earned my money and Your choice of some of the featured articles have been questionable.
what's going on!
You know, us solon readers are a well rounded bunch. but your re-structuring has yet to prove why i should keep visiting. Your mag has some pretty sharp edges! pretty soon you'll be getting rid of the machinist, or broadsheet.....
Life is not all about the presidential elctions or the war. there are other things in life, like beauty, and comedy.
I had enough tragedy....bring back hope!
Bring back Audiofile! It was a great daily feature of Salon and one of the reasons I am keep subscribing. Salon isn't going to disintegrate into a generic site like Slate.com ... is it?
I urge you to reconsider. If it's a streaming cost thing, ditch video dog. I can get that sort of stuff on any number of sites. Audiofile has been an excellent resource.
Audiofile was the only reason that I signed up for a premium account at Salon.com.
It was, in fact, a major selling point when I signed up.
It's the only thing I read on a regular basis.
