Congratulations!

And stuff. Jeez, am I the first poster?

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 02:47 PM

Good Job, Salon!

Well done!

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 03:00 PM

Add another to the pile

Congrats, Joan and Salon.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 03:06 PM

Congratulations to Salon!

Despite the posters who regularly pounce on certain article writers and editors, I love this magazine. That includes Heather, Rebecca, Garrison and other social commentators as well as all the excellent political and news commentators.

I think most of the recent changes have been for the good and look forward to reading and occasionally participating at this great site in the future.

Well deserved

For my money (as a Premium subscriber!), best thing on the Web since 1999.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 03:22 PM

I agree!

Way to go Salon! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading it for many years now, even when it almost got me fired from my first job in 1999 - reading Eric Bogosian's 69 Ejaculations (or whatever that series was!) got me flagged for "pornography" viewing at work! Not that that's stopped me from reading Salon daily, and from being a premium subscriber to boot...

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 03:29 PM

Congrats

I agree with the other posters. Salon is my internet home base. It has been ever since I discovered it six years ago.

If I might take this opportunity to make a humble suggestion - how about a Libertarian columnist or blog?

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 03:31 PM

Kudos!

Richly, richly, richly deserved. Salon is my home page for a reason. It's brilliant, brave and smart as hell.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 04:22 PM

Joining in the celebration

I don't pay the premium subscription fee any longer, as I find the put-up-with advertising option to be just fine, but in case it counts to someone out there, I used to be a paying subscriber, and I've been a big fan of Salon since the mid 90's. It was the mix that attracted me and the mix that keeps me coming back. I'm a proud liberal, but I second the poster who suggested a Libertarian column. My liberal values are all about being open-minded and supporting the ACLU as well as liberal social policies. Group think--the idea of a one-party country--even if it's mine--that SCARES me!

are you sure it wasn't an award for victim worship?

Salon of six or seven years ago used to have thought-provoking articles.

Now its an endless parade of anti-Bush stories which are so filled with bile and/or mindlessly repetitive that no matter how much I agree with the basic points of the authors are simply loathsome to endure. Add to this the weekly anti-Israel story like clockwork, couched in the false premise of being gutsy and novel. My personal favourites are the sadly less frequent victim worship articles for which Peter Kurth established a new nadir for just the other day.

Oooh, don't forget to use your advert space to extol your receipt of this utterly meaningless award. As if your ego weren't bloated enough already...

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 05:05 PM

Congratulations Salon!

Unlike some who only post to whine how crappy Salon has become and how "this is the reason I stopped my subscription" or some such whiney crap like that (cough, Victoria L, cough), I was very happy to renew my subscription this morning.

Wonderful and well-deserved

Once again, the wisdom of my choice of Salon as my home page is affirmed. My you all shine on for decades.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 05:52 PM

Congratulations

Salon has consistently improved over the past few years, but the past year has been extraordinary. The mix of articles, commentary, bloggery, and stuff that's still really hard to categorize has been exuberantly ambitious. And the relationship between Salon's writers and its readers has become much more dynamic, if not fully interactive.

It's impossible for an outsider to know who deserves credit for marshaling all these disparate forces, but I'm fairly sure that Joan Walsh should get a few extra kudos. Managing change is usually a thankless job -- except when we take the time to say, "Thanks."

CONGRATS!

As a repeat Premium subscriber, I offer my congratulations on this well-deserved award. High quality and wide-ranging content has its rewards.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 06:30 PM

Awesome!

Congratulations! I can't think of any online mag that deserves it more.

Now quit screwing around and bring back Cary Tennis and The Fix!

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 06:40 PM

yay, joan and salon.

congrats!

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 06:43 PM

If the label fits...

I call it a webzine. And I know I've read others refer to it as such.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 08:08 PM

Congrats!

Nice to read the news. Well deserved.

Thursday, May 3, 2007 12:06 AM

congrats!

Many congratulations for a well-deserved award!

I've always described Salon as a "web magazine" or an "online magazine" when telling people about something I've read here.

Thursday, May 3, 2007 05:13 AM

Well done and well deserved

And a special award (IMHO) goes to...(fumble, fumble, fumble)... Sidney Blumenthal, Gary Kamiya, Joe Conason, Andrew O'Hehir, Glenn Geenwald.

And the pie in the face goes to.... Camille Paglia.

Thursday, May 3, 2007 05:22 AM

Webby

Whoever awarded it made the right decision! You do a wonderful, tireless job! Congratulations!

Thursday, May 3, 2007 08:48 AM

Congratulations

Well done.

Joan Walsh: You Go Girl!

Ah, ust another reason Salon members are justified in putting forth money to support the "good writing and good thinking" which is presently better than ever. Some of us have been there ever since the old days, when I heard about Salon and actually did not own a computer and went to Barnes and Noble to ask if there was such a thing as a paper copy available...You've come a long way baby!

Hate To Say It...

I hate to admit it after all the grief I've given you about Camille Paglia, but you deserve it. Now please drop Paglia, proto-anti-feminist passive-aggressively disguised as feminist, and life at Salon will be good again.

Thursday, May 3, 2007 01:07 PM

Camille is Smart & Fun!

Camille will probably drop Salon before Salon drops her, but I say keep her coming. She's unusually thought-provoking, courageous and funny. (Salon's answer to Maureen Dowd, though I don't think those two like each other!)

Thursday, May 3, 2007 07:28 PM

Based on Today's Book review

Salon has officially become a hatespeech site. In any way you want to spin that term. Salon is really no different from heretical.com in that regard. If that wins awards, well that's nice. I won't even try to characterize the place anymore. Or visist it either. Thanks for all the fish.
