Sniping All Around

Who was it a few pages back told you Diable that you won't be around long i.e. candidate for the gay disease. Kind of slurry and Savagie wasn't it? Pigfuckers have few tools to hold their prey it seems.

On the Afghan question did anyone ever point out who shot the Noam Chomsky quoting Ranger Pat Tillman in the forehead?

The Real Me

Diable agreed, self-hatred is issue a big one. Have you ever looked (this is rhetoric) inside and seen unkempt emotions or whatever and get the idea that they will not recuse themselves no matter? This is a long drawn out story you know much easier to get going do Martha Stewart and never look inside.

Reminds me of an actress talking about her long time father actor who was totally against 'introspection'. You know Diable many many on this planet and in this country consider 'introspection' less than worthy, treasonous to desire even if this desire leads you to answering questions about snorting meth off a male prostitute's cock while your family is in the running station wagon waiting...ala Ted Haggard.

Afghan Stability

Stable?

Afghanistan?

Has ever there been such a thing?

Afghanistan was quite stable up until infighting between liberals and socialists in the governing party led to Soviet intervention. The central government's power was of little account much beyond Kabul, but the provincial regions weren't hotbeds of militant fundamentalism and the treasury wasn't wide open for the use of terrorists, either.

In any event, the idea that we can pursue a "counterterror" strategy in Afghanistan without addressing the insurgency there is ludicrous.

@Support Our Tropes

Seriously, what other explanation is there for Georgie? Vile man, in DEEP DENIAL. George, just come out, stop hating yourself, and see that you're a normal human being....sorry, you CAN be a normal human being if you just stop hating yourself and others.

"Counterterrorism" IS "Counterinsurgency"

Any strategy that hopes to succeed in suppressing terrorism in Central Asia has to start with securing a stable Afghan government and society. You can't do that with special ops guys and drone strikes: it takes boots on the ground.

Do It Subliminally

Classicus your joke about Brooks man baiting Obama into more troops is a good one, I hope he offers to give his lipstick color to them, after all the Taliban are beautiful in make up.

Uncle Fester 45,000 more tropes distributed through the media just might do the nasty job.

Said I'd include the workers/peasants who did the bidding of Uncle Joe also.

Diable you go girl!

Aren't they?

Sunday, November 1, 2009 11:32 AM

@Classicus

The muse whispers in my ear for fun, though I am hard of hearing. I must seek my lump of gold elsewhere.

I don't really think 45,000 troops more or less will matter long term. It is the strategy that does matter, a strategy that involves more than just COIN. It's not clear to me what that strategy is, so I dunno. We'd like to think we're fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, and some times we are, but an increasing number of Afghanis think they are fighting to evict a rival tribe. And as mentioned above, the tribes who are our allies aren't Mr. Nice Guys.

As far as American Exceptionalism and Empire Management goes, the works of the 'Project for a New American Century' dudes (aka the Neo-Cons) are terribly ironic. They sought to extend and solidify the American Hegemony, but it seems to me that they have only hastened its demise. Probably because they sought to extend the past instead of reaching for the future; it looks like they will share the fate the horse buggy makers and ice haulers at the beginning of 'American' century.

It's true the past can inform the present and might lead to a little less political hubris. But I doubt it. Unfortunately, my copy of Thucydides remains only partially read, right next to Fagle's translation of the Iliad. One day.

Quite.

the world's worst people are the Nazis

second worst are the Zombies.

Sunday, November 1, 2009 11:03 AM

@Didus, @Silenced world's worst people ?

Both you have now told us that the Taliban or Karzai's Northern Alliance are the worst. Ignoring that both could be true, I propose single combat, gladiator style to resolve this.

Classicus would be on hand to keep it old school and provide instruction with the use of the gladius.

Morituri te salutant!

Uber-General McChrystal

He is a pro, right? He knows the situation on the ground. Everyone in theater reports to him and yet....he continues to put the troops in harm's way. Pourquoi?

Does McChrystal consider the nature of the mission so absolutely vital to America's continuing existence that he has to put US forces in positions of such high risk that the results are an unprecedented death toll like we saw in October? Sure there are other factors involved, up to a point. But I really question his competence.

It's time to take the Stan out of Afghani-Stan.
