"I don't even recall that this was ever discussed at Gleen's blog."
I was at Gleen's blog and I don't recall anything of the sort. In fact I don't recall being at Gleen's blog.
...did anyone notice the trouble they are having getting health care right or the increase actions by the military in Afghanistan?
The nation survived this kind of hysteria in the 60s and will so again now.
When we were all scared we had no problem letting Bush do what he wanted, this is more an indictment of our intellectual laziness than his.
let it go - move on.
"If anyone in Congress starts to actually do something, they will surely get a special letter from our friends at Langley courtesy of Fort Detrick.
Or their plane will crash like Senator Wellstone's.
Or a sex scandal will remove them from play, like Edwards was in order to benefit the Health Care Industry."
...or that unfortunate incident in Dallas that then CIA contractor Bush 41 seems to know something about.
Torture, spying, disinformation, subversion, media manipulation and murder are quite graspable and something you can discuss in congress and the media.
You cannot talk about the things that are in the realm of science fiction save for the comic book versions in popular entertainment, nor can you talk about wetwork or those who benefit or arrange for such except in Hollywood blockbusters.
Some of these people who come up with those scripts may have had similar experiences or may be privy to the handlers notes because they actually quote me and replay scenes that i have experienced. There are probably thousands who had the same treatment. My two predecessors ended rather badly, one bringing a gun to work and the other changing sex. Then there was the young lady with vertical slits for pupils - let us assume the were contacts One old fellow rambled on about the underground bases and the benefits of exposure to radiation in reference to the Dulce Mountain in New Mexico. After my employment was over, I chanced upon the X-Files. I had good reason to become a regular viewer. I am a regular viewer of Chuck and Heroes. Guess why.
Certain things have to be kept secret.
Like who would pay for a space drive using a giant rubber bands? You have to keep stuff like that secret from Congress. They have no idea what Van de Graaf generator is and they wouldn't believe you if you told them.
The real secrets will never be revealed.
LBJ wasn't the only Vice President who tried to kill the President. He just had a more reliable and professional team and 41 was on it so that one worked out great.
Ever wonder why Reagan was shot?
The Hinkleys ran Bush's campaign in Colorado.
Who ran the country after he was shot?
It wasn't Nancy.
This may sound a more like a rocket from one of your favorite copy and paste letter writers. I'm not surprised that the intelligence agencies lied/misled/ Congress in general and Pelosi in particular. They have a track record in that area.
To me though, that doesn't get Pelosi or the Congress off the hook either. I'm one of those bad people who think the Democrats will get caught with their hands stuck in the cookie jar if too many details of the Bush programs see the light of day. And senior Democrats will be found complicit. I'd start out with the Armed Services and Intelligence committees. That doesn't mean that they knew everything, or that they started it. It means at a minimum they knew enough and went along.
Speaking of not going along, I think the role of John Ashcroft should be held up. I'm not a fan of his, and I think some of the other stuff he did, like the employee prayer groups, really crossed the line.
But there was a line that he would not cross, even under duress in a hospital bed. He knew when the Consitution was being shredded. I'm waiting to see if the Obama administration and Dem Congress can say the same.
And his cabal of lawless arrogant punks have not already been hung from trees by an enraged populace is a poor prognosticator for the future of this country ......
Kiss it off ..... the sheep don't care .....
that congress 'must take.'
if they don't, you will throw yourself to the ground, kick your heels and hold your breath?
it's not your country, it's theirs.
they will do what's best for their careers, as ever. this includes covering up crimes committed by previous administrations, as most were complicit, and all are harmed if the cattle are alarmed.
the governing guild is corrupt past reclamation, the media trained past any public usefulness, and the band plays on. 'the american empire, the middle years' is on the stage and the commoners can do nothing to prevent the decline and fall. it wouldn't matter, except that one consequence of this particular imperial saga is degradation of the environment throughout the world. this makes hope for a new age rather tenuous.
Uncle Fester, I'm with you on Ashcroft. His wife stood up to the bullying, too. How horrific and illegal were the Bush-Cheney maneuvers when a career Christian conservative and law and order guy like Ashcroft (and his deputies) risk their jobs to block them? And why doesn't Obama want to know?
Or maybe he knows, and he's decided the rest of us can't handle the truth...
The truth will set you free ....
Bush was a Christian too ........ God talked to him .... which was enough of a reason to put the sob in a straight jacket before the elections even began.
Michael Hayden's comments on the newly revealed surveillance program set up by Bush & Cheney reflect the attitude of the CIA and FBI during their most blatant violations.
His concerns? Do we have the technology and will it work?
No concern for the legality of it until after the DoJ refused to endorse it.
This is quite a revelation and I hope that it's not like peeling an onion but it probably is.The movie "The Good Shepherd " was chilling, but this is real.It seems that the first thing to do is to determine WHO was lying to congress and begin the procecution process. It is against the law isn't it?From there Panetta should straighten out policy and his employees should comply.Pardon My naivete, but this is America isn't it? As one of my favorite presidents used to say,"We can do better."
