Odd Palin lawyer letter follows odd Palin speech

Don't peddle "Housegate" rumors, lawyer tells media, which sparks more "Housegate" stories, naturally

@virtue001

Virt, reading through your past letters provides perhaps the most cogent refutation of the republican worldview available. Few other places provide some many complete examples of an ideology based on an utter misapprehension of the facts. (Seriously, how many of your predictions have come true? I count somewhere between 0 and -1.) Few other places will show the basic tenets of logic being abused so relentlessly. You provide a lesson so simple, a little kid can understand it. "Here, kiddies, let's look at how republicanism has gone so wrong. Open virt's comments, page 1."

Since my purpose here is to help expose the intellectual bankruptcy of republicanism, I have to thank you. You are indispensable to this effort. Without you, all our opinions would mostly constitute theory. You demonstrate the bankruptcy in practice. Thanks again.

@Joan -- You're welcome

"I'm super grateful to virtue001 for his sweet, sweet fan boy suck-up to ABreitbart."

Yes, Breitbart is one of the best. It's nice to have heroes. Did you have a chance to read his post, Joan? Don't you wish you could write on a level that high?

But you still haven't answered my question. So here it is again: As Editor-in-Chief and as a "feminist" -- how do you reconcile Salon's blatant misogyny against Sarah Palin in articles like these:

Gary Kamiya depicts Palin as a dominatrix here:

http://www.salon.com/opinion/kamiya/2008/09/09/mistress_palin/

Cintra Wilson calls Palin a fuckable Christian Stepford wife here:

http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/09/10/palin_feminism/index.html?source=rss&aim=/mwt/feature

Tracy Clark-Flory on the Salon "broadsheet” posts "Sneak Peek: The Palin Porno" here:

http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/feature/2008/10/20/palin_porn/index.html

Any answers this time, Joan? Or do you just weigh in when you want to insult me?

PS: Golly, I sure seem to be getting a lot of attention lately. Isn't this thread supposed to be about Sarah Palin?

WTF?

Palin said she had thought about the decision to quit for quite a while. Yet she "twittered" this 2 days before her announcement.

Congratulations to Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan as he is sworn in today! I look forward to working with him.

@virtue001: The misogyny canard

Virt, first of all, it's a pity you can't acknowledge that all your hand-wringing over misogyny is nothing but a partisan ploy. There is enough misogyny found in your own letters to give Gloria Steinem a coronary. So, to be clear, you have no problem with misogyny in and of itself. You're just finding it useful in this instance to pretend to care about feminist issues, so you can attempt to get one over on 'Ol Dogface. Right?

As for those 3 articles which make up your current obsession, XH provided what I found to be a very reasonable explanation of all 3 of them. You didn't like that explanation and weren't about to let go of your obsession just because you read some words, so you rejected it with your standard refutation: "Nuh uh."

However, because your refutation contained absolutely no substance, what you actually broadcast is your tacit acceptance of XH's argument. Had you truly found something objectionable about what XH said, you would have spelled that out. You didn't, because you can't. See how that works?

Again, you are indeed the gift that keeps on giving. A self-defeating Republican. Pass the popcorn. (Oh, and tell us again how you were so mature and apologized for dissing a vet, even though you plainly didn't. I loved that one!)

@paulpsd7 -- Thanks

But I asked for a response from Joan, not you, my friend:) And the issue isn't my own stance on misogyny -- it's about what appears to be Salon's rather selective and duplicitous tolerance of it.

Tuesday, July 7, 2009 08:19 AM

Virt: You paint yourself in a corner with your non-responses

Again with the "Nuh uh." Are these arguments so irrefutable that you can't even bear to address any aspect of them?

And what if your petulant "ME ME ME!" does result in a response from Joan, what then? You've demonstrated that you have no compelling argument for anything. What's your endgame exactly? Run away?

Joan, perhaps you should respond to him and put him out of his misery.

Odd is only the beginning.

As someone who's lived in Wasilla (briefly, prior to Palin's governorship), and who has seen how that city has grown over the last few years, and who knows how "connected" everyone in alaska is, accustations about everything from Nepotism, to Cronyism, to out and out Extortion and the Selling of Plenary Inulgences will be hurled at any high profile figure, and oddly, because it's alaska, it could all be true. It's like going to Saudi Arabia and accusing people of illegal polygamy, in contrast to the regular kind. So, appropriately, in a nutshell, Wasilla in a lot like NYC or any big metropolitan unit, but in big cities you can attest that you don't know your neighbors and mean it...but in Wasilla, or Eagle River or Healy or Ester...you really cant, and yet things get done, much of it agreeable to everyone concerned.

That said, Palin a political creature who's just been offered fame, power and prestige...and a lucrative book signing deal...and for whom almost anything she does, especially avoid publicity, will bring her to a special place in the american conscience. Too bad. I wish they'd read more and watch less TV but since we're talking reality, we'd better also consider how sweeping revolutions start; hint: it's not when experienced political analysts suggest that it will. Its unpredictable nature makes it as likely it will be emerging from Palin as it will be Obama, but either case we see that a significant segment of the population is not all that happy with the system, and Palin shares their animosity.

I can't help but notice how the more critical and accusatorially urgent the political scene becomes the more influential and powerful the corporations that control our cable and broadcast news sources become. Palin may be just a pawn but she is conveniently here with us for some time.
