I DO try to be even handed here, admitting when I'm wrong and such. I just wish Joan Walsh could stray from her political agenda once in awhile and speak the truth now and then. Wouldn't that be lovely?
An anonymous Republican "writer" complained about my describing "allegations that she's quitting because of a criminal investigation into the Wasilla Sports Complex." The exact wording of Palin's lawyer letter described the controversy as about "the alleged criminal investigation pertaining to the construction of the Wasilla Sports Complex."
The language is pretty identical, so the writer might want to blame Palin's lawyer -- as I did.
But then again, the writer in question neither reads, nor writes, terribly well. In fact, I wouldn't sign my real name to that mess, either.
I'll take tat as an apology,'night bro.
You're right, dude. Joan's hypocrisy often bends me out of shape. Time for a Turner Classic Movie and a glass of wine. Cheers:)
I’m referring, of course, to what you called “a criminal investigation into the Wasilla Sports Complex boondoggle." And as Mr. Van Flein rather kindly articulated in his "threatening" letter: "To be blunt—this 'story' was alleged during the campaign, evaluated then by national media and deemed meritless. Nothing has changed."
Add to that the fact that Palin "already faces $600,000 in legal bills inflicted by Democratic plumbers chasing down similar rabbit trails for 'news'" (as readerreader has pointed out) -- well, the letter is neither "odd" nor "menacing."
As for your statement that "Max Blumenthal added details Saturday in the Daily Beast" -- Sorry, Joan, but Mr. Blumenthal hasn't added anything at all. He's simply resurrected an old rumor and recommented on it. And frankly, I’m not surprised that you are more than happy to jump right back on the bandwagon, despite the fact that the FBI itself has denied this rumor as recently as yesterday. But don't let the facts get in your way. They never have before, have they?
Tell me, Joan, if this meritless rumor once again turns out to be just that, will you be apologizing to the woman Salon has made a fortune “misogynizing" (I know that word is not actually in the dictionary) since the day she appeared on the national stage? And if you doubt Salon has “misogynizied” her, I would urge you to revisit the following Salon posts to refresh your memory. Because as Editor-in-Chief, YOU are responsible for these "charming" entries.
Gary Kamiya depicts Palin as a dominatrix here:

Yep, you’re a real, live feminist, Joan, a real, live feminist indeed. How pathetic. How in the world do you look yourself in the mirror each morning?
so I'll just keep my opinions to myself.
Dude,Give it up,get some sleep.
"You asked for proof that the Palin camp was smearing Mr. Letterman, and I provided it. You're confusing factual analysis with elitism, and as Bonnie and others have so effortlessly handed your posterior to you on a platter...I understand the debilitating helplessness you're encountering."
Huh? Actually, I proved that you and Letterman were vicious and wrong. Willow was actually AT the Yankee game the night Mr. Letterman said she waa "getting knocked up by Arod," -- not Willow. What a nice thing to say, No misogyny here, of course. But Letterman's obvious dodge was something he has since apologized for. And I commend hin for that. But really, angrypoodle, if he was telling the truth about meaning to refer to Bristol, does that somehow make his misogynistic behavior more acceptable? Are you not an intelligent woman, capable of seeing the obvious?
It's really rather sad that this behavior is conveniently skated over here at Salon, with Joan Walsh as Editor-in-Chief, claiming to be a feminist. Don't you think?
"However, it will not lessen the embarrassment and utter defenselessness you embrace with a load like Sarah-love to carry around."
You're really being assumptive here, my friend. I'm not a big fan of Sarah Palin at all. And I really don't think she represents herself or her party well. Maybe she's learned that. Maybe not. Time will tell. Nonetheless, the only thing I really find repelling these days is the relentless, misogyntic attacks against Palin here at Salon. I will refer you and others to a smattering of them yet again:

Talk about misogyny. Joan seems to be the Queen of it all,
...seem to be the "evil leftist liberal media rah rah!" that Palin so enjoys to portray as the "enemy of real America", when I read that part I thought it was another example of said portrayal, to apply another rinse cycle to the brainwashing of the "real Americans".
It's textbook marketing, keep on repeating it and it becomes more and more entrenched in their minds that only Fox News can be trusted.
it has been a long road from poorest Appalachia to the LA Auto Show to governor of the biggest little whorehouse in alaska. you made it all the way to the top baby but now the dream has died.
O me miserum!
lost her looks (wait a minute, what'm I saying?) and discovered she couldn't write. Uh oh.
Readerreader, you've been very gracious, I hate to carp, but I have to say to you, and Sarah Palin: Princess (as in Diana) is a title; Governor is a job. You're elected, you have big responsibilities, you serve. The next time you're tempted to complain that someone at Salon is condescending to Gov. Palin, remember that I never called her something as silly as princess.
But given the blow you suffered this weekend, you've otherwise been very reasonable. Certainly you're not trying to Swift Boat actual Vietnam veterans or make up lies about me and other Salon writers, unlike other Republican "writers" who haunt these threads.
